Fiesta Metal Performance Upgrade Ideas

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

New to this forum so not really sure what Im doing hahaha.

Question to people with a Fiesta Metal Edition. What modifications / upgrades can be done to boost power and performance? Rough prices per part etc would be appreciated!

Cheers

Very nice motors. Improved management, exhaust, intake and head helps this little motor punt out some 14BHP more that the 1.6 Zetec S upon which it is based, so Ford have already done most of the obvious bolt on tuning upgrades, and a few besides. With this factory modified set up you're at the point where you'll need to spend some proper money to make any real gains now, such as cams, pro gasflowing etc, then beyond that you're into the realms of blower conversions. I'd leave it as it is.

Similarly, the suspension is already lower and uprated over the base Zetec S, so I'd be inclined not to less further unless you're using quality dampers and springs to replace like with like.

Brakes would probably respond to uprated discs and pads, or a conversion from a bigger Ford.

I'd stick with subtle mods that can be reversed. Only 2100 of these were made (after Ford suckered people in advertising only a run of 1000 would be built) and with the genuine performance and handling enhancements they're liable to be quite sought after among the Ford Loonies in years to come.

@Jethro_Tull hit the nail on the head. Ford have already done the easy stuff (like air filters, remap, exhaust etc.) There's no point changing any of that unless you're going rebuilt motor/better pistons, camshaft etc. Then you're getting into the dangerous area of potentially blowing up the engine or having never ending cylinder head gasket issues. I've always said for every 100cc there should be a max of 10hp. So a 1.6 should be 160hp. Obviously high performace cars are different, but for a daily that's under 2.0L that's what I aim for.

@Jethro_Tull @Luke4efc cheers to you both! I agree with what you both are saying.. Im going to keep it as standard, car already has decent performance and I dont fancy ruining it with problems or spending loads of money on it!

Although you've made a good decision, just one other thing to point out if/when you look at modifications in the future, I'm assuming from your username you are only 19/20.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of insuring any modifications, they will often be prohibitively expensive, at least until you are over 25.
