Trying to do timeing belt and carnt get this stupid crackshaft pull bot off had a bar on it had a socket gun on it sprayed it swung off it ! Nothing any ideas don't want to pay daft garage prices

I did mine by putting car in 4th and someone standing on the brake pedal

then using a breaker bar if this helps

Have another go at it tomorrow then see how it goes driving me mad

put some heat on the head of the bolt, you'll be surprised how much it helps.

Hopefully It will I do everything to avoid garages lol

For someone who is very keen on taking things apart but not yet brave enough to do it to his only means of transport, the same guy who just barely has an understanding of engine parts, can someone explain what's involved with a cam belt change please?

My 2014 1.6 tdci has just done 63k (though not in a single journey like that reads lol) and I'm wondering if the time will be soon for it to be done and whether I could do it myself...

Not sure if it applies, but I regularly have to remove screws that haven't moved for over 100 years. I find trying to tighten slightly first can get them moving.

That's screws into wood though, not bolts into metal...

If yours is only 63k wudnt worry about it yet do it when it gets to 100k

Thanks. Good luck with yours!

And if like you say you don't know about it then do not touch a timing belt if your timing is wrong game over lol

I know that, that's why I'd like to learn :) I've seen what happens to piston heads which have had valve rod give them kisses! I also had a cam belt go on my mk1.5 Laguna some years ago. £600 damage to £900 car...

Is it as theoretically straightforward as locking the cam and crankshaft positions together? I've seen that there can be a special tool for this in some cases?

I've also read that usually there's a replacement of pulleys, tensioners and water pumps done too?

You can replace all if you want I'm just doing belt and drive belt you can use alen keys drill bits anything wudnt waste my money on locking pins as long as it carnt snap easy and you make sure its all locked up... mark your belt up on the top and bottom with tipex or something that wont rub off then remove it makeing sure nothing else moves.. count your Teeth more than 3 times to be sure then mark your new belt and replace

Fancy putting up a few pics as a walkthrough while you do yours?☺

Feel free to say 'no'! Lol!

I'm no mechanic or expert just read up on the part you want to do and check the risks of what could happen when it goes wrong then the rest is up to you

some belts you can do this way and others you definatly cant. what engine have you got?

I appreciate that and it's not like I'll be doing one tomorrow, I was just interested in how it's done, much like others are interested in the process of fitting DRLs or reversing cameras etc etc.

Since Adam seems to know what he's doing I'm.guessing you're asking me, Ian?
