Potential Purchase, Quick Question

Featured Replies

Evening all

Thinking of buying a 2015 Fiesta tomorrow but just noticed in the pictures that the mileage/odo is actually in KM and the seller has listed the current mileage as this KM reading

Is this something that can easily be changed using buttons on the display? Or is the odo coded in the ECU to display either KM or M?

Hope someone can help...

Yes it’s easily fixed through the car’s settings

Mind your insurer will probably want to know if the cars an import, also steering wheel on the correct side?

perhaps it was first registered in another right hand drive country  eg. Ireland.  Does Ireland use KM? not sure.  Two ways to kind of tell if originally registered in UK or if it came from somewhere else.

On Ford ETIS it will probably not come up on reg. no. search - as per my 2007 fiesta which was first registered in Guernsey.

Also does DVLA show details, like this one below (my ex-Guernsey Fiesta) see it shows July 2007(when new)  and December 2007(when registered with DVLA)

I don’t think the OP stated that it’s an import, just that the odometer reads in km instead of miles, which is an easy selectable option on the car’s settings

Yes this is exactly the case, not an import, full UK model, just showing mileage in KM instead of miles

How do you do it in the settings?

there will be an option of "measure units" . then km and miles option will show. select miles.

I know, but as he says the seller has put 'km' in the advert it leads me to think it might be from somewhere else unless the seller is a bit thick.  I wonder what the main big numbers on the speedo show - mph or kmh . I know that does not really prove anything for sure

You've been lucky and can change it before it's first MOT. I've seen many cars that have been in KM (like jap imports) and they've had an MOT at 90,000KM one year (but the MOT guy has wrote it down in miles, so online it shows as having 90,000 miles) and you go to the next year and it says 60,000 miles (100,000KM).

It just looks like somebody has altered the speedo between MOT's.
