1.6 Ti-VCT or 1.8 Duratec HE Engine - choose ?

1) yes - duratec is essentially the name for an upgraded sigma engine, with marginal improvements in emissions, fuel efficiency, torque, etc

2) yes, aluminium block. warms up and cools pretty quickly

make sure of all the usuals when looking around - regular servicing, frequent oil changes, no blue or white smoke etc. also make sure the timing belt's been replaced (with itemised invoices to prove), else factor at least 300-400 quid into the cost of your purchase.

thanks. so cambelt change interval  is what ? please

The 1.8 and 2.0 duratec are timing chains not belts. That was what swayed me to buy a 2.0 over a 1.6. As for the 1.6 belt interval, I'd guess 60-80k or 8yr? But someone with one will be better equipped to ans I'm sure.

I'm also interested in the timing belt interval for the 1.6 tivct.

every 10 years  or 80,000 mls , which ever comes first

same for both standard or ti-vct 1.6 petrols

Official is something like every 10 years by age (off the top of memory), but most owners including myself would advise to get it done at the 8 year mark.

80,000 miles should be OK, but change it a bit sooner for total peace of mind.
