As I say good luck and lets hope you never have an accident, however that does sort of highlight the issue somewhat these days, people want to know their loved one is safe because of airbags and safety features, none of them can make someone drive safely or at the right speed for the conditions etc, they can certainly help in the case of an accident and even save lives, but it is easier in my opinion to learn in a car without all the safety features in cars these days as people can learn how to control a car properly without expecting various ECU's to intervene. Sorry if it sounds like I am being preachy but I learn't to drive 20 years ago in cars that did not even have power steering let alone ABS/EBD/TC etc etc. I wish the test would be changed so people are taught to drive properly in the real world and taught on a skid pan etc as people would be able to react to a situation much better, I also believe the test should be made a lot harder as people can pass a test that are dangerous and should not be on the road and yet they are given a licence. The test is merely the minimum required standard to get your licence. Anyway I am trying to not go off on a tangent and not doing very well at it lol Nice motor anyway.4 points

Congratulations, however one small word of advice. It amazes me how many people buy a new or nearly new car for their first car, whether you can afford to or not isn't the question. But statistically due to inexperience in the first year of driving you are more likely to be involved in a crash and or to write a car off. This can be a very expensive lesson to learn especially if the car is on finance and you don't have GAP insurance. I have known people buy a pretty new/new car and had it written off and left paying finance on car they don;t have any more, not to mention a high insurance cost that is cancelled when the company pay out, which you still have to pay for if in instalments, you also need to find the money for a new car and new insurance on top of that. You only really start learning how to drive once you have passed your test, driving lessons only teach so much. Personally myself I would always suggest new drivers buy an older car for at least the first year until they have a bit of real world driving experience, just my opinion of course. Having said that I hope the new car serves you well and you enjoy it and hope you are not one of those statistics.4 points

The belt is rated for 10 years at least I've never seen a belt deteriorate before that time unless mileage is high or its contaminated. I'd replace year 8-9 you're wasting money if you replace every 3-4 years just due to age and I've been a fully qualified mechanic for 20 years2 points

the thing I like about the green cotton filter is that I haven't had to replace it at all, with the millage I do I'm changing the filter several times a year, after July the savings ive made have paid for the filter. in saying that, I'm not sure id bother if I got a new car, but fo now I might consider getting one of the ones with the hole in the end or I might just do a mod on the airbox for a bit more noise.2 points

New pads and disks done yourself, somewhere around £60 for 'decent parts' (depending where you buy them) and if you got a garage to do it, somewhere around £150 + (again the price will vary depending wether it's a main dealer or small local garage) If the spokes on your wheels are large enough take a look through them and see if you can see the brake pads to check how much material is left, failing that remove the wheel to look.1 point

If the recirc button is lit it means that no fresh air is coming into the car as the outside air intake is closed off, the air already in the car is just being recirculated round and round.1 point

It is a very involved job to remove the cylinder head, requiring removal of the turbo, exhaust, injectors, glow plugs, loosening the alternator, draining the coolant etc. But you need to remove anything above the head first also, so fuel rail, fuel filter, crankcase cover and camshafts by a quick look at the haynes manual.1 point

Thanks Tom! It hasn't really sunk in yet! Cheers, yes I'm even more determined now than I was before, and my license should be here next week all ready for June. Hopefully the DVLA will spell my name correctly this time! Yes I plan to, itll live at my dads for now, and he might use it occasionally to to stop the bsttery getting low. Its only just over a month now till my brithday so not long! After that itll live at my mums and ill rpbsbly drive to school and back with her everyday. I already drove the Focus a little bit at a dead end and manged to stall it! The clutch was very different to the Peugeot and Kia I've driven previously. I can tell I'm going to love this car! I absolutely adore the colour! Wow you did well! I'm already learning for my theory so aim to pass it pretty quickly after my birthday, although a week in Germany the day after my birthday doesn't help! New Focus sounds great, I'm sure you'll love it!1 point

just chuck in another mahle filter or the like, where are you driving to get your filter blocked up so quick? ùnder normal operating conditions a standard filter should be good for at least 30k minimum without serious performace loss. i had a car with the same air filter from new to 105k, just occasionanly blew it out with compressed air, no noticable loss of power or fuel consumption, engine was good as new, bit extreme i know but shows filter was still performing its job . im not saying do the same. lol1 point

They've probably put a generous amount of it on the face where the wheel meets the brake disc, centrifugal force of the wheel rotating has sent it flying everywhere lol.1 point

The root cause is the washer jets on the bonnet, very common problem as the rubber deteriorates some bathroom silicone around them under the bonnet will prevent any further water getting in there. The rear spoiler can also leak the to deterioration of seals around the bolts I've siliconed mine before it began 👍1 point

Looks like 20% off a new one at the minute, £170 http://www.trustfirstparts.co.uk/product/Ford_Focus_17_5_x_2-spoke_Alloy_Wheel_-_2008_-_2011_-_1527078_F1527078-120 If I was buying new I would buy 2, might aswell do both the fronts and then have a spare alloy if you intend on keeping the car. I needed another one as a spare for my holidays to Cornwall, I got lucky and found one on eBay with a good tyre (not selling sorry). You'll just have to keep trying eBay or scan online breakers if you want a cheap used one, I follow these guys on eBay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/focuscarbreakers2010?_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l27541 point

2016-03-19 Slow Sod with No Indicator Skills This Dual-Carriage road I go down has 2 types of people, those who plod down it and those who like to get down it. This Fiat pulls in front of me without indicating or judging my speed (or not looking at all), (Edited Out) They failed to indicate right on the roundabout too. They failed to get going in a 40mph Zone in the outside lane and I was cautious not to undertake someone who only looks ahead, and I judged them almost right when they swing left on to the lines, forcing me to brake to avoid them (again).1 point

Pick Your Lane Don't think this guy knew where he was going, probably missed signs saying both lanes can go right. But he still shouldn't cut across lines like that without indicating, if he'd indicated to cross left I'd have slowed and let him back in.1 point
