I belonged to a small group of enthusiasts from many forms of motorsports that formed a club to hold car races on several different lakes in the northern part of the lower peninsula of Michigan. those courses were around 2.4 k or a bit less if there was a large amount of snow on the ice. It was generally laid out with a long straight leading into a long sweeping curve transitioning into an S curve then a tighter turn leading back into the straight and the start/ finish line. there were different classes of vehicles determined by drive wheel configuration and tires used. IE; front drive rubber to ice. Front drive studded tire. Rear drive rubber to ice. Rear drive studded. And then an open class that was studded with heavy power modifications, the catch all class for people who built unusual or extremely non stock cars. the club was a magnet for all kinds of people and many unusual cars. It was more fun than anyone should probably be allowed to have at such a low cost. At the end of the weekend we would gather at a nearby bar restaurant and have dinner and drinks and watch the videos of our good and embarrassing moments. At the end of each season we would gather again for the awards ceremony, dinner and raffle prizes. the cars were generally beat up older models. But this was not a demolition derby. Scuffs and “love”taps were allowed in the heat of racing but ramming or shunting anyone got them a black flag. It was the best instruction of car control on a low friction surface I could have ever had! I can post a few more pictures if members comment that they would like to see them.1 point
