my mates got a 2006 Vauxhall zafira (yes I no) it burns oil really bad so we are going to try 10w 40 if its still the same we will scrap it

I'd have scrapped it the moment it rolled of the production line!

It's not caught fire yet then?  (Apparently Vauxhall regret not marketing it as a "feature" on the vehicle).

Joking aside, hopefully it sorts the issue and saves him having to pay to replace his car.

no not yet

Did it work?

Update..

Unfortunately we're still burning oil on 5w-40 after using that engine flush. Weirdly my MPG has gone up by 3, but the oil consumption remains the same.

I'm currently looking at other cars, maybe a Honda Civic. I've heard their engines are brilliant.

Glad it worked well for you mate, I'm sure some of the other brand flushes are also decent but BG have a really good reputation for their additives so I thought I treat the wife's car to "the good stuff".  To be honest, when I dipped the oil a week after the flush and it hadn't budged a mm I nearly fell over, the difference between before and after was ridiculous.  I keep checking it every 2 weeks but it doesn't seem to want to budge, lol.

@Davek1995 I went straight back to using 5w-30 without any problems.

I ran it for the amount time it said on the tin + 5 minutes to really make sure it had time to do its job.

Sorry to jump on this now, new to the forum so browsing lol....Leaving a tin in for 5 mins, can it really do any good at such a small amount of time?

BG109 or EPR as its now known is good stuff. highly recommend it

I didn't say I only left it in the car for 5 minutes, I stated that I ran it in the car for the time stated on the tin PLUS 5 minutes!

Bump, bump.

Same issue same engine.

I think, anyhow.

We're all talking about the flexifuel 1.8l, right?

My burns oil like a müfü.

Bought some semi-synthetic 10w-40 today, since a litre was only ~6£ or so. I've topped it up with OEM spec fully synthetic 5w-30 up until now but I'm thinking why spent extra coins on good quality oil if I still just need to refuel every other week or so. I don't have money for engine rebuild or scraping and buying a new car so right now this frequent topping up is my only option. Sigh, I'd prolly even go to old-school mineral oil since that's even cheaper than semi-synthetic, but that stuff's getting hard to find on the shelves nowadays.

How has your engines worked out?

Bump away as much as you like, just don't expect any answers. This in the UK FOC and the flexifuel engine is as rare as a Unicorn f4rt.
