Are Escort GTIs worth saving?

Featured Replies

Hi there, a colleague at work has an S reg escort GTI that has been sat in a field for 6 years! As I understand the GTI is becoming quite rare these days and 1 day could be worth a pretty penny. So with this in mind I was wondering if it was worth saving and bringing back to life? Help and advice would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Conor

If it's been in a field for 6 years it's probably got no floors left...

The GTI wasn't particularly good or desirable, but they are fairly rare now so would be worth fixing to sell, depending on how much metal is left lol...

a lot depends if you have space/facilities to keep it. if you had a barn/garage and didn't need the space for anything else then you could put the escort gti in there and leave it for 10 years at least, I don't think they are old enough yet.

I've actually seen the car and the floors are ok and the sills aren't too bad either. Rear wheel arches are a bit crusty along with the rear spring mounts which I believe is a common area for them to rot! My colleague has said that they're not that desirable but he used to enjoy driving it before he bought his Evo 10!

I've got a spare garage I could put it in if I do decide to have the car however if I just put it in there and leave it wouldn't it get worse? I had a mk1 mx5 that was garage stored for 4 years and it was rotten!

  • 1 year later...

So did you get it and put it away for later?

If so any pics of where you are now with it?

  • 4 months later...

Is this for sale? Totally worth saving
