Breakdown cover, worth it?

Last time I bought a non-runner and had it transported 100 miles it cost around £150...  I'd suggest recovery companies probably take advantage of a breakdown situation and charge even more...

I've had bad experiences with breakdown services but still buy them each year as an absolute last resort...  You'd like to hope a brand new car doesn't have any major mechanical faults but there are all sorts of things that can render a car unuseable.  Two tyres blown on a pothole, piece of scrap bounces out of a pickup and smashes the windscreen, hit a deer/badger/pheasant that takes out the radiator, etc...

If you're servicing with Ford anyway then go with their breakdown as others have suggested.  If not, you can get breakdown for under £30 from places like StartRescue.

I've gone with AutoAid this year, £48 Nationwide recovery & Home start (essential when you're a DIY mechanic on your local street).  Had to use them as well (when the EGR shut down completely 😄 ) . No complaints!

We are both on PCP, the missus doesn't do enough miles for a service to be needed before we renew but I wonder if having the check on the books might make it worth on trade in?

When I had my check at 12 months it wasn't recorded in the service book because it doesn't count as an actual service, which is not due until 2 years/18,000 miles. I do have the bill of course, though as has been discussed on other threads, I have never found, come trade in time, any dealer to take the slightest interest in anything other than the service book being stamped at the specified intervals (or, for some makes, the online service record being up to date).

Some of us have.......😀

Just to add to my earlier post. My dealer sent me a video of the check and I have to say they were pretty thorough, inspecting the suspension, inside of tyres/wheels, exhaust, brake lines, wiring etc while up on the ramps as well as the underbonnet checks.

Eric, yes, all the dealer was interested in on our cars we traded in was stamps in the book and no errors on the dash.

TBH though even for 99 quid I think it is worth it, after all, any faults they find would be fixed under warranty anyway.

Break down cover is cheap.Works out at a couple of pounds a week or so.Call recovery man out without it and You will get Your pants pulled down.
