What’s your thoughts on it now?

It is a cost saving measure by Ford that was handled in a sneaky way.

My car is still on an extended holiday at a Ford dealer getting warranty work done and it was not fully run in before it went in so I have not had a chance to test its full potential yet.

Sneaky is definitely the word for it. Mines an automatic, delivery start of October. Ordered mid July. You in Edinburgh? I’m in Glasgow. Is it macklin? Did they sort you out with a courtesy car? I’m motability so very limited for choice. The 182 focus being one of the bigger engines available. Was on here I first heard about the suspension change , the ford dealer either doesn’t know about it or is playing dumb. Best of luck

@Alex.S, I'm in the East side of the country, and don't worry, I have a courtesy car until I get mine back.

Mine must have been one of the early builds with the new setup and I started the original thread because Ford where being evasive (as you found out yourself) and to let others know that what they think they are getting and what they get may not be the same thing. Anyone who is contemplating ordering a MK4 and has searched this Forum can make their own minds up.

There’s so many things I like about it. Although I could/can walk away from the lease deal b4 it’s delivered. The saving grace in my situation is the ST-Line x has sports suspension. I’ve been reading Mazda have also gone with a torsion beam on the Mazda 3. The focus was my car of choice by a long way but seems there’s a lot of teething problems to say the least!

As for the titanium, all the research I’ve done suggests there is no noticeable difference between the multi link and the twist beam.

Stumbled across an article talking about the mulitlink, so did a quick search and found this thread.

I orderd my ST-Line X last October, was told there was a delay in production and i wouldnt get it until late December, got a call to say another delay due to "my options", all i asked for was different headlights. Finally got my car on 7th March.

I had forgot all about the suspension thing until now, it wasnt something i thought about as i remember in the brochure it said my car will have it and made sure i checked with the saleman.

Just gone out to look under my car.. torsion beam !! gutted.

Now looking back, there is a road i drive often and i noticed the car handling felt it was skipping around this corner, thought it strange at the time.

Starting to wish i had kept my old car.

On another note, my dad has a petrol 182hp ST-lineX, he was giving me a lift and i was in the back of the car, i did noticed it was a bounce in the ride. I have also noticed it if i have been driving behind him, the car seems very springy in the back.. and he has the independent rear suspension (68 plate)

I've got a 19 plate (registered August 27th) ST Line X estate with the 182hp petrol and it drives lovely even when there is no load in the back, the estates keep the multi link suspension 👌

I was disappointed when I read that. Even Ford thinks it will dent into its sales, but it seems to be happening across many makers including Mazda.

I have a 2005 mk2. The wheels are 195/65 r15. The ride is smooth, but it corners pretty well and I can take roundabouts at high speeds if needed.

I don't have that much experience in cars, but I would like to keep that sensation in my new one. I don't like the fashion of installing thin rubber on big rims, as it is expensive and gives a harder and noisier ride.

Any experience with the "active" version?

Thanks.

We have a Fiesta active which handles well but neither that or my mk4 Focus handle as agile as my mk1 Focus did.

I have a mk4 Focus ST Line X 2.0 Ecoblue with the multi link rear suspension and also a mk2.5 Focus Sport 1.6 TDCi and I find the mk2.5 actually handles better and feels more planted round corners.

I was expecting the mk4 to be better with the lowered suspension, I'm a bit disappionted.
