MK8 clutch/ gearbox issues

Featured Replies

Any mk8 owners having gearchange issues?

bought mine in Oct 2017 from new,  so on a 67 plate, just done 10,000miles, started noticing that the gearchange especially from first to second was getting a bit clunky, as I changed up and down, about last October, mentioned to the dealer when it went in for, the check over to renew the ford assist breakdown cover, they said they checked the clutch linkage and could find nothing wrong, I noticed that the problem has seemed to spread to third and fourth, though not as bad, and took it back, where one of the service guy took it out for a test drive, his conclusions...he didn’t know what to say?.?., but advised that it wasn’t worth booking it in ..( I read from this that they don’t want to either strip the gearbox, unless it was actually broken, fair enough, I guess it will cost them to do that if they can find no fault)

the symptoms are hard to describe accurately unless it’s driven

setting off, changing up to second it clunks into gear, not at all smoothly, as you go up through the gears it’s as if you can ‘ feel’ the cogs, ( crazy I know), but that’s how I can best describe it, also when going into second coming down the box it sometimes feels reluctant to go in, and requires more pressure, also sometimes trying to get out of second also needs more force, not excessively just a little more pressure, as I said, that’s how it feels to me, not right at all, when we got the car the gearchange was lovely, smooth and slick, an absolute joy to use, someone suggested I try another dealer, but will they really be interested in a car not bought through them?.

So if you have a mk8 just keep an eye on your gearbox, could this be an ecoboost issue but this time with the gearboxes?

I’ve got an 18 plate that I bought 7 months ago and I’ve done 5k miles, taking it to 40k in 4 years which is about average. The gearbox has always been quite loose and now 2nd gear grinds into place, 1 often struggles. They’ve stripped the box and found the entire gearbox is finished after just 40k miles. Seems like a problem with these cars. Anyone else had a similar problem ?

My partners 67 plate has started to pop out of 2nd when changing gear, shes driven it good from 11k miles and now at 34k miles - did you ever get this fixed? If so do you know rough cost? Cheers

I would hope that it was fixed. That post was made 7th July 2019.  The OP last visited the forum in march 2020.
