Sync 2 reverse camera

Featured Replies

Well, what I've seen is that when I put gear on reverse, after ten seconds I receive the message "Could not connect to rear camera". Only thing I want to know if will it works before disassemble half a car...:)

If your screen changes when you select reverse and it didn't before then you have successfully changed the config with Forscan. It correctly displays the message saying unable to connect to camera because there isn't one there.

I would recommend connecting the camera up doing the least work possible as a test run. If it works then you can disconnect it and remove trim and fit it properly

Mine didn’t do that with not one connected. My sync 1 displayed a black screen and sync 2 displayed a blue screen but no message.

But my question is.... why it takes 10 seconds after putting reverse to show the message? This message disappears when I get reverse out..... I've been looking through some forums on internet and I think I have to change the BCM 726-01-06 entry from 1240 (no camera) to 9240 (with camera)

Does the screen change straight away and the message comes 10s later? That's what my sync3 did, blue screen and then a message.

I used Forscan in engineer mode and then ran the cc module and used the drop-down menu to select 'with camera'

I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything in the BCM, just the APIM. I changed line 7DO-01-01 xXxx xxxx xxxx I changed the value of X to an 'A'

I will also try this... 🤔, thanks... Is it a focus mk3? Mk3.5?

That's what I had done, just changed the this line in the APIM(As-Built) from 7D0-01-01-096C-65DA-109D to 7D0-01-01-0B6C-65DA-109D

Key

3 = With camera no PDC

9 = No camera with PDC

B = With Camera and PDC

Right enough I don't have the dynamic lines, but that wasn't what I was after anyway, just wanted a factory look and feel reverse camera install.

I have the camera and tomorrow I will install it, but I still have a doubt.... in the APIM(As-Built) I don't have a 9 or 3 or B in my second bit of the first block... What I have is:

7D0-01-01-0D6C-109D ..... I don't understand the meaning of this "D" character. Most of the people has 9, I've also read people with "2" on this bit, but I don't know why I have a "D" on that bit. I'm trying to collect information about the different options but I cannot.... Mine is a MK3.5 with a retrofitted SYNC2... previously I had SYNC1... I'm starting to think that this is coming from the old APIM. To reprogram it I used focccus and didn't load any "as-built" data. As everything was working correctly I decided not touch anything else... probably my APIM now is a complete caos.

Perhaps I should load an asbuilt file from a car with SYNC2 and camera (I have one located)...

For now just try changing the 'D' to one of the recommended values.

Some APIM values are not the same for everyone, there are always exceptions. Try the known values that work and go from there, you may be worrying about nothing at all, simply changing the correct individual value may be enough.

I changed the value in the drop down menu on engineer mode, I installed the camera, (with some difficulties) and now is working correctly. (Most important thing is to choose a good iron part, not painted, for ground connection... it was making me crazy). But I'm worried because the license plate illumination is although a 30% less than on original handle leds... I don't know if I will have problems on MOT...

Mate you worry too much. If the bulb is too bright then it ruins the image from the camera. As long as it illuminates the pate you are fine.

Are you able to change the bulb in the new unit? If so just put a better bulb in when it comes to MOT

I've been talking to a traffic policeman, friend of mine, told me not worry about ligth intensity, it's OK if license numbers can be read, but, for cameras integrated on the illumination systems can be a problem for MoT if not homologated. Anyway, the appearance of the camera is the same as on original, so I hope not problems with it.

Anyway, camera is working OK, but I can see such kind of distortion in the top of the image, exactly where the advertency message  and zoom button is shown. I don't know if this message can be removed, because I think this overlapping is the origin of the distortion.

Nice find!! It pays to mooch about scrappies. Where is the place you got it from? I'm in need of a new OSR light cluster for a MK3.5.
@simrad I don't know about all the pins etc but if you read the post above the Forscan values are shown there.

Avoid Claverdon salvage at all costs, they don't know how to remove parts from cars and if they break any, they still send them and when you contact them about it, they say you caused the damage, they list on ebay but will only accept bank transfer, and that's not to avoid fee's, it's to avoid refunds. BEWARE!

Does the camera have to be wired to an ignition live or will it work just being powered off the reverse light, I know the retrofits on the sync 1 radios need the camera to be constantly powered for it not to throw a hissy fit

The camera can just pick up the live from the reverse light at the back of the car. OR, you can pick up the ignition switched live to the self park on the rear wiper motor, which may be easier as the wiring is inside the tailgate.

Just incase anyone else has the same issue I had when attempting this in the future, if your APIM throws a u200 code (module  configuration incompatible) after enabling rear camera in the module configuration, go into the pcm configuration  and enable rear parking camera setting and this code should then be resolved
