A little bit of progress. I've written a note to my new supervisor explainng the situation and asking (well, begging) for the holiday

However, i have found a loop hole!!!

The store closes at 7.00pm

my shift starts at 7.00pm

They make it out as i have to bring my hours forward.

HOWEVER technically and legally i have to do no such thing as it is out of my control that the store is closed.

No pay? So be it, a meet is genuinely worth missing out on £25

They normally try to adjust my hours too if the stores opening hours change. But I suppose your right, you can say you wont be able to do anything other than your contracted hours on that day. So you shouldn't have a problem.

It's a regular problem at Sainsbury's. It's made out that we HAVE to work, when in fact we don't have to at all.

It's just whether i have the balls to do it or not!! I'll offer to make up the hours elsewhere, of course.

Unbelievable! A meet which is 2mins from my house! Unfortunately my car will be on the drive but i'll be on a plane coming back from NZ so im gutted to miss out on a meet so close to home :(

If I was in the situation you was in I would just say, politely:

"Sorry, but I can't work any earlier on that day. I have plans. I can cover the hours on another day though." :)
