is it possible for my stereo to be causing my battery to go flat ?

was out in car friday playing music from the usb when the stereo said it doesnt  recognise the usb radio was playing up could seem to do any thing with it went out saturday radio working ok went out monday the radio kept flicking from the station to saying dab digital so ended up turning the stereo off.went to go out on tuesday and the battery was totally flat could it be the stereo ?

i do have the dash cam on all the time but its on a battery saver any help apreciated

also ive recently installed a new battery and the alternater is charging

If you don't have special tools to check then unplug the stereo for a while and see if the battery stays charged. Like recently when my sound went I was using my phone with a Bluetooth speaker temporarily.

It would be a volt meter to test which area is pulling the juice. I wouldn't know where to start with that m8.

right went out today car started ok stereo removed when i came home i noticed the temp on dash said ---F again went to lock the car but wouldnt lock after a while the temp came back to nomall and car locked again. any ideas where to look could it be clocks or the remote reciever ?

When any power loss occurs all gauges reset to 0 then once you start the car then get going again it sorts out. When my original battery went flat I bump started the car and my Speedo was not working I had to stop and start it again then it went back to normal. The ECU is weird. Recently I went for an MOT which included a free battery check and when I got the car back my radio had no sound and I removed the negative battery for a bit and put it back on and my sound came back lol So if you still have power I assume it would be the stereo at fault is it aftermarket?

so dont believe its the stereo.was out today and all was ok and stereo is back in

Did you disconnect the battery before removing/ installing the stereo? Did you get the correct type of new battery?

i didnt disconect the battery before or after no  and it is the right battery acording to euro car parts

Eurocarparts are not always correct due to the different variations. As long as its a calcium battery should be fine. Always best to disconnect before playing with electrics so you don't upset components.

been out to the car and the battery is flat. ive not driven it since monday the 23rd  . would the dash cam flaten the battery in that time ? ive got a battery minder on it will be changing that to on with ignition soon just want to know if the dash cam can flaten the battery in that time

Was the dashcam running all that time or just in parking mode?  If it was running then yeah, that'll easily flatten a battery in less than a week.

i have one of those 6v 12v charrgers that can start the car but it recognises the battery as a 6v and wont allow me to set it as 12v. i checked the battery its got 7v in in it

not sure if charger is duff as its couple months old or the battery is duff even if its only couple of months old

So called 'smart charger' contains the microprocessor that recognizes if 6 or 12 V battery by measured voltage and can't be set other way, therefore not so smart.

If car battery has 7V most likely it is sulfated beyond being able to be re-charged, so new battery is the only way out. A parasitic load from the dashcam damaged the existing battery. Make sure it's unplugged after the new battery is installed.

could it be because the battery is a lion battery ?

im looking for a battery charger  that will charge a lion battery but most say lead only any one recomend one please ?

Presumably the battery is a Lion brand lead acid battery? If so any smart charger should be able to charge it. If the voltage on a 12v battery has dropped to 7 volts the smart charger will detect it as a 6v battery and the battery is most likely dead. Have you taken it off the car to see what voltage it shows when nothing is connected to it? You might be able to get a charge in it using a non-smart 12v charger but it is probably beyond saving.

im not sure what lion batteries are i tested the battery with a volt meter and said 7v but the smart meter said 4.8v . the battery is only about 2 months old maybe 3

going to get a charger as had enought of the one ive got

just read the description it says its a calcium battery ?
