Oil life

Difficult to give an exact answer.

Some models for example 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 originally had the ability for the owner to reset the Oil Life indicator. Many of those vehicles no longer have that ability after a software update performed by the Ford dealer while in for a service. This means that either the reset has to be performed by a Ford dealer or you have to use the FORScan software to reset it.

Is that, to try and stop home servicing?

very probably, and of course small independents.

I think it's to stop dumb owners reseting it themselves because they haven't reached 12/24 months or whatever their service interval is.

It can probably be reset by a normal garage with a reasonably up to date diagnostic system. It always use to be done with button/pedal combinations, never from the onboard screen.

My car already requires a service procedure just to change the brake fluid.

Some of these dumb owners prefer to change the oil and filter more often than the service schedule suggests due to low mileage.

That’s not a dumb owner. I’m referring to the ones resetting it without an oil change. Give people the option to reset it and too many dumb people will just reset it to make the message go away without changing the oil.

Well that would be a rather dumb thing to do 🤣

I'm still waiting for ours to have its bl00dy service, should of been done alongside the MOT but " too busy" so was supposed to go in other Friday when it snowed so it got cancelled 🙄 so atm is looking like next week or the week after due to the backlog of work 😬
