Focus MK4 muffler corrosion after 6 months

For comparison here are my 2 Focus exhausts - you can tell from the shape but not by the amount of rust which is the Mk4 at less than 1 year old and which is the Mk 2 at 13 years old with original parts!  At this rate I don't expect the Mk 4 exhaust to last as long.

13 years on that exhaust!?  What where they making stickers out of back then!? 😮

Good point.  I just went out to take a look at they must have used top quality heat resistant sticker material, maybe they should be making the whole of the Mk4 exhaust out of the same stuff.  Looks like it was made in November 2006 which makes sense as I have never had it changed in my ownership since it was 1 year old.  To be fair it only spent 2 winters in the UK before moving to sunnier climes which I am sure has helped it last longer.

That is genuinely amazing tbf!  I take it they don't salt the roads wherever you live now?  I lived right on the North Sea coast for a while, could almost watch any steel rusting!

I can't say I've noticed a lot of difference in makes tbh. My Audi exhaust looked pretty rusty quite quickly, though was still passing MOT after 5 years/35,000 miles. My Mrs's Mk 1 Ka was still original when we sold it after 7 years, as was her Citroen ZX which she had 9 years then the brother in law got another 4 out of it.

That said, the last 2 or 3 pics above do look quite bad particularly on the bends - my Fiesta doesn't look that bad after 2 years +.

My MK2 1.8 TDCi (2005) is still on it's original exhaust, although the back box did shed it's exterior skin about 6 years ago! 😂

Just in case google brings you here. The dealer claims this is perfectly fine corrosion and nothing to worry about.

...

Mine is 2 years old with 30.000 km and the corrosion is same as on yours, I have original chrome exhaust tips, corroded too.
