Has anyone had any experience with a escort mk2 wiper motor?

I am having issues with the wiring harness and want to check the motor. I'm trying to get it working on the bench. When the power is connected the motor works but wont park, is this normal?.

Is there an easy way to bench test the wiper switch without the switch connected?
