OBD port and Motion detecting Keyfob

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I'm seriously looking at added security for my car.

Bob kindly recommended a Disklock steering wheel lock, which I will have a look at.

During my Google research I have been looking at possible areas which can be an easy target for Car thieves.

I have looked at the Ford site which states all Fiestas manufactured after April 2019 will have a different OBD port circuit which prevents some thief from entering your car and pluging in a device to start the ignition,  as the software will lock up.  Furthermore all Fiestas manufactured after April 2019 will have keyfobs which if left for instance on a table at home and they haven't moved for at least 40 seconds will go to sleep, thus preventing anyone from scanning the key, then gaining entry.

My question is my car is a 2019 model, first registered 31st August 2019 but not sure if it got fitted with the new obd port and motion sensing keyfob, as who knows it may have been manufactured before the April 2019 introduction date.

Is there a way I can tell if my Fiesta has these 2 important additions please?

Cheers

Steve

That's the very reason I bought the disklok Steve.   It was recommended to me by someone on here who had had one a various cars for 20 years.   I wouldn't leave my car overnight without it now.   I just don't see how anyone could drive the car with one fitted.

It was Ian318 recommended the disklok to me Steve.

Thanks Bob, been looking since you first recommended disklock, and will be nipping in to halfords today, wish my 15% ford members card had arrived, but can still use my aa 10% card.

Good thing about halfords is if I get it and find it awkward to fit i can easily return it.

Does it scratch your steering wheel Bob?

Steve, I’ve had one for about 5 years and can thoroughly recommend you get one. When I bought mine, on of the options was a glove which fits over the steering wheel, which saves the lock from marking it.

It's not marked my steering wheel at all Steve.

Thanks guys for your help, Nipping off the Europarts this afternoon for a glove, now in receipt of a disklock about to unbox it.

Thanks

Steve

You'll soon get used to it Steve.   I timed myself earlier and got it off and engine started in 18 seconds.

Thanks Bob, hey you may be throwing the gauntlet down for a competition now for how quick can you remove a disklock. 🙂 🙂

seriously though, that's a reasonable time for removing a wheel cover that is in no way an inconvenience.  I guess my biggest concern is wrecking the steering wheel, but once again with everyone's fantastic advice I've also ordered the wheel sleeve too.

bubble wrap until it arrives  🙂

thankyou once again Bob

I'm devastated - it was me, but hey, as long as you got one that's the main thing LOL 😂

My apologies Stephen.   Just checked again and it was you who first recommended the disklok.   Very pleased that you did.

Hi its good to see people using diskloks mines a silver colour one , i think they started doing yellow ones again, once i remember when i worked at halfords a customer wanted a good deterent, they said oh its to big n heavy ! We sold loads though.

Well I've got used to mine already, I wouldn't say its very heavy as a lot on the Internet say, I would describe it as having just the right amount of weight to reassure me its made  of good quality materials, at halfords they had a similar one made by another mfr think it was disklock, that was about half the weight, and didn't fill me with much confidence.

Got bubble wrap to protect steering wheel until the sleeve arrives, to be honest it wouldn't have hurt them to have included the sleeve as part of the setup.

But would thoroughly recommend it, thanks to all who did.

Now mines a posh 'chrome' limited edition one, but it's a once in a lifetime purchase so was worth the premium...

Probably break into car to steal it attract attention cuz its shiney😁

Quite frankly, looking at a car with a disklok on the steering wheel from the point of view of a thief, I think I'd simply look elsewhere.

If they want to steal your car they will. Just tow it off or put it on back of trailer. Loaded into container off to destination. Bob your old car could be spares now or being driven by a pleased customer in a foreign country or ringed in this one.

Might be good for keeping your pizza warm while you're driving too

Back to your original question. To test your fobs are going to sleep, just leave them in the car for a few minutes then without disturbing them, try starting the car. I forgot about the fobs going to sleep and when at work I wanted to move a fiesta , I thought the battery had gone flat or the keys had been removed. 😂😂

Many thanks Ian, pleased you picked up on that, I was trying to figure this out still 🙂
