The HGV driver issue they say in not Brexit related, but their solution is to amend Brexit rules.

Following Brexit, an invitation was made for any EU citizen living/working in the UK to apply for citizenship - over 3 Million took up that offer

When the government introduced the country to lockdown, which was a political decision, that delayed in excess of 47,000 HGV driving tests.

France, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Netherlands, and others are now all having issues with shortage of HGV drivers - maybe they are suffering from, 'Brexit' too...

However, the Daily Mail would have nothing to write about if they didn't blame Brexit on every ill we suffer...

And yet France, Germany, Belgium, Romania, Netherlands, and others do not have shortage on supermarket shelves nor fuel queues . If you look at all the industry surveys on the driver issue the top to reason are nearly always Brexit and IR35 tax changes.

I maybe wrong but I'm sure I've read something like, a driver crossing the EU-UK border and only do one drop and one pickup since Brexit. So if a load was came over and delivered to Glasgow the drive can no longer returnload from Glasgow to Manchester then Manchester to London and then London - EU, , meaning we need even more driver to do those extra trips. I was told travelling UK artists (bands) are having the same issue in the EU now the driver can't take the stage gear to multiple concert venues on the same trip, as I say I may be wrong, I read this from a band planing a European tour.

I will agree the fuel issue is not a Brexit issue, more a Tory supporting media planting a distraction from other news that got out of hand, and then a government that took no action. They are taking now about getting the army to drive tankers, why now, why not do it quietly last week. They were told months ago this was likely to happen, a government of zero planing and turning a blind eye till it's too late.

I have yet to hear one single actual benefit of Brexit (don't spout the control and sovereignty *****, the pandemic and different rules set by each EU country has blown that lie out the water)

LOL, we've been here before buddy, no amount of 'debate' will persuade either of us that the other guy is right! That happens alot in life, let's just agree to differ...

We are 10 months past debating there is no "debate" of what will or won't happen, it's now a world of facts and figures.

As  expected the leavers have all gone silent on the benefits, we call all see the actual disadvantages in leaving, but still nobody will post a tangible benefit seen in the last 10 months.

The pandemic has been a far bigger effect on the UK than Brexit will be, so totally unrealistic to list certain benefits right now. Come back in a year when our economic recovery is well on course, ask the same question, and will be happy to supply you and James O'Brien a full list of benefits...

The other day, one Minister was valiantly desperately saying that BREXIT was a good thing because we were able to allow in migrant workers as and when we needed them, as with the HGV drivers' shortage. It remains to be seen how many want to return to the UK for three months and then have to go home.

My job related to the labour market in London and the South East, a dominant theme being shortages of workers, both skilled and unskilled, in much of the region. With few suitable indigenous candidates, the vacancies were filled by people from overseas.

In  a year's time, there will be plenty of scope for researchers to investigate how we have faired - and plenty of scope for selective sifting of the facts, depending on who commissioned the research. The COVID situation allows for lots of water to be thoroughly mudded.

A wise observation. You should always investigate who provided the money for a particular bit of research - there are very few truly independent sources, and questions often skewed to provide the right result.

mmm... snow probably white, could be a racist issue! 😄

Typical leavers response, give it another year, wait a bit, in time you'll see.

Well I can see effects and disadvantage NOW, I don't need to wait, and  I don't need to use the Covid excuse.

I just waiting for the "it's not the Brexit I voted for " claptrap to be used.

I reached out a few posts ago for us to stop this constant bickering, can you not just let it go?

Snow? See how tough things really were in Yorkshire:

Regarding part of the title of this thread......

Those robbing utility companies now require around £100pm for gas and electric ( is that about normal or excessive) which is almost double what we was paying at our last house although that was on the PAYG meter set up, which was already installed when we purchased the property.

Non, je ne regrette rien.

The Government price cap for dual fuel customers on the standard default variable tariff assuming average usage is currently £1277 per annum, so £100 per month is probably a suggested amount based on that.

The "cap" is more an indicator than an absolute figure though, you'll actually still pay more than £1277 if you're a high user, conversely you may pay less if you have low useage.

if you've selected a tariff other than the default (e.g. a 2 year fixed deal) the cap won't apply.

My current supplier (EON) lets you select your own direct debit amount - which you can adjust at any time or top up your account with a one off payment.

I'm not sure that I understand the cap.

Are you saying that if I use £1300 then they will only charge £1277 ?

At our last house we used to pay £20/£25 Electric via key pre payment and £30pm for gas.

No.  The cap applies to average usage...  So there is a set amount of units that the £1277 applies to.  Use more units, and it'll cost you more, use fewer and it'll cost you less.  The cap is technically on the unit price rather than a yearly figure.

I'm still paying the same DD at the moment, £98 a month for all electric on Economy10...but I know the price has gone up now, and I've also had to use a lot more high rate electric recently so I won't be surprised if my DD is increased to about £125 next time.

Yes, it's not that clear how it's calculated. I was trying to find something simple along the lines of "x amount of units at y price" to explain how they get £1277, but failed!😃 This is the explanation on the Ofgem site but it's still not simple!

I’m no sure if this has already been discussed. I’m reading the new unleaded E10 fuel drastically affects mpg and the cars performance!?
Any truth in it? I’m not sure if I’m onto E10 yet, tend to just grab the green hose but not the expensive one!

Google says mpg will be  1% down.

1-2% at worst. Everything I’ve read which claims more is just scare stories or selective statistics. Most people haven’t noticed a difference. The weather changing or using your AC will have a bigger impact.
