Alarm goes off too soon while doors open

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just looking for some help. When I unlock and open the door I don't have long enough to get my daughter in her baby seat before the alarm goes off. It feels like it goes off after about 30 seconds, maybe a minute. Very annoying...can't seem to find how to change the timing of it.

Thanks

Are you unlocking manually with the key?  The alarm shouldn't be going off if you're unlocking with the fob button.

Yes am unlocking with the key, opening the door then it's setting off if the door is left open for too long. Obviously a good security feature - but there has to be a way to change the setting.

Any reason why?  Do the remote buttons not work?

There's no way to change it.  The alarm is deactivated by the fob unlock button.  When using the key blade in the barrel, the alarm will only be deactivated once it reads the immobiliser chip from the key being placed in the ignition.

Tom is absolutely correct. Think of it like if you had an intruder alarm in your home, and on entering your house, you never put in your PIN code on the panel. Not only would you expect the alarm to eventually go off, but you'd be complaining to the manufacturer if it didn't. By using the key remote 'unlock' button, you are effectively entering your PIN number. In addition, if you haven't used the keyfob 'unlock' button, by placing the actual key in the ignition, once again you are entering your virtual PIN number, just opening the door with the key does not deactivate your alarm..

Thanks for the replies but I have definitely unset the alarm with the fob. I've never opened it by the key

mmm... maybe it's the way you tell'em LOL 🤣

Lol, ok.

Do the other doors relock while you've got the rear door open for the baby?  If so it's probably a faulty door module on that door.  The car doesn't know that door has been opened.

Just playing devils advocate here buddy, but, if the car doesn't know the door has been opened, why is it activating the alarm? (Unless it has a posh motion sensor in it which would be instantaneous?)

Alarm is deactivated by the fob...door is opened but lock module doesn't know.  Auto relock locks the doors again after 30 secs.  Proximity sensors are then tripped by people moving inside the car.

Might not be that...but the alarm shouldn't still be active once the car is unlocked with the fob unless it locks again.

The car is relocking itself after 30 seconds, I hear the mirrors turning in then the alarm starts to go off. It is opening it as it should do.

To clarify, I'm opening it with the keyfob (not turning the key in the door, just pressing the unlock on the key).

Is there a setting that the alarm goes off if I don't start the car 30 seconds after opening the door (which is pretty stupid)? Or maybe that the car thinks it's been left with a door unlocked and would go off after 30 seconds anyway (say I arrived at my destination, opened the door and then didn't exit for some reason?

There is some sort of motion sensor in there by the way. When you pull up and turn the car off it scans for passengers and leaves the light on or cd player on or whatever until you get out....

No, there is no such setting. If the car is working normally, pressing the unlock button on the keyfob will unlock the doors, and deactivate the alarm. If none of the doors are then opened within a one minute period, the car will automatically lock them again, assuming the 'unlock' action has been an accidental press of the key in your pocket/purse.

If it does anything other than this, it would indicate a fault somewhere. There is nothing in 'settings' that would deviate from this action.

Try opening and closing another door as well. If the problem does not now happen that should tell you that the problem is that the car is not detecting the door being opened as per @TomsFocus post above.

That is assuming that you only open the same door to put your children in the car and don't open any others before the doors lock and the alarm goes off.

If it still happens when doing the above do the courtesy lights come on when you open the doors.

Ah, it's a Mk3, was assuming MK2.5.

Lights and radio only stay on until you open the door...so at least one of your door modules is working lol.

As above, most simple thing you can do is open another door, ideally driver's front seeing as we know that works for the radio.
