I have used https://www.tayna.co.uk/  for batteries on all of our cars. Great service with tracked delivery. We bought Varta Silver for both Skoda Fabias and my brothers Mk6 Fiesta. Not sure if it's cadmium technology, but seamed to fine in his car. However, unless existing one has size type, please measure before buying as they suggested the wrong size for the Fiesta.

Many thanks, Jim, will definitely measure the size to make sure the new battery in the existing holding basket. My current installed battery is wrong size 😭 and I modified the fixing bar to use it, though I bought it from the local ford dealer by using reg number. Also it only lasted 2 years and 3 months, since it was a aftermarket product (paid £35).

Please help:

I just found changing battery requires resetting Battery Monitor Sensor (BMS). I followed the instruction found in internet as shown below but did not work. Advice please.

1. Ignition on for 10 secs

2. press rear foglight switch 5 times (IN my ford fusion (similar to Fiesta MK6), the pull out switch controls both front&rear fog lights)
image.jpeg.25267d4dc49b30899efe90ad8b6d2ccd.jpeg

3. press hazard switch 3 times (of on&off)

4. wait 10 secs.

4. Battery light flashes 3 times (I did not see battery light flash at all).

5.  Ignition off.

Thanks.

One of these methods might be worth a try, the first method worked for me :

The Battery Monitor Sensor can also be reset manually by using the following
steps:
• Switch on the ignition, but don't start the engine.

Turn the headlights to the on position
• Flash the high beam switch five times by pulling and releasing.
• Press and release the brake pedal three times.
• If the steps were successful, the warning indicator of the battery charging system in the
IPC (instrument panel cluster) flashes three times within the next 15 s.
If the sequence is interrupted by pressing other keys or pedals for any reason, repeat the
above steps, starting from the beginning.

If the BMS reset procedure described above does not work, follow the procedure
below (within 10 s):

• Switch on the ignition.
• Press the rear fog light switch five times.
• Press the hazard flasher switch three times.
• If the steps were successful, the warning indicator of the battery charging system in the
IPC (instrument panel cluster) flashes three times within the next 15 s.

Hope above helps.

Hi,

I replaced my Ford Silver Calcium, 43Ah, 390A battery with B18 Varta Blue Dynamic Car Battery 12V 44Ah (544402044) (063) which was ordered from www.tayna.co.uk, £49 last January.

The battery guarantee was claimed to be 4 Years, but now the 1 year old battery went to flat two times (i.e. measured voltage to be 11.7V, not enough to start car) and we did use the car at lest a few hours every week. The alternator was working fine (measured to be 14.40V on battery terminals when engine on). When the battery flat, I took it off to charge it to full in my garage (12.40V) and then it worked for 1 or 2 weeks. Now it went flat again.

Battery drain current was measured to be <60 mA after the engine off for > one hour. Is this because of cold weather or bad battery quality or else? Can I contact Tayna for complaints?

Thanks.

A fully charged battery should read 12.66V.If you can, it’s a good idea to trickle charge your battery when your car is not used regularly. To maintain a healthy battery, the state of charge should be full at all times. If your battery can’t  reach a fully charged state then I would get it tested👍

B18 Varta Blue Dynamic Car Battery 12V 44Ah (544402044) (063)

As I have both a 2010 Fusion, and a 2007 Fiesta, I am quite interested in this topic.  Fusion is generally driven by my wife, and the Fiesta my toy car.  So what happens is, that if the Fiesta needs a new battery, then the new battery goes in the Wife's Fusion, and the older Fusion battery goes into the Fiesta.  There is nothing in either the Haynes Fusion or Fiesta manuals for resetting the BCM - so I have never done that or had any problem by not doing so.  My understanding of the smart charging on these cars is they vary the charging rate depending on things like ambient temperature - I've not seen any sensor on the battery as such, but I look forward to hearing how it does work.   Fiesta originally came with the smaller battery, which when I fitted heated front seats, I upped the size, changing the battery box to suit the larger battery from the Fusion.

I looked up the spec of the Varta Battery, and could not find the word Cadmium.  If it was not Cadmium, it has probably been overcharged, as I believe Cadmium batteries are charged at a higher voltage (14.4 ?) than a standard Lead Acid battery (13.8 ?), so you can replace a lead acid with Cadmium, but not the other way round.

I'm also intrigued that you bought a Battery from Ford that did not fit, and did not take it back ?   As I have a good relationship with my local Ford Spares department, this is where I have purchased replacement batteries and other parts for years, not had any problems with incorrect parts, but some of the prices are now just getting silly.

Fusion is a great car - apart from not being able to travel in time, just like a tardis !

Looking forward to hearing the solution.

BCM = Body Control Module.

You mean the BMS (Battery Monitor Sensor). Your 2007 car won't have the BMS fitted in the battery negative lead, and I don't think your 2010 will either.

Both cars will have alternators with smart charging, there is a small auxiliary connector on the alternator. Changing the battery capacity for a different size needs to be adjusted using FORscan so that the battery will be charged fully, or at least to whatever the State Of Charge (SOC) is set to which these days is factory set at 80%

I got my BCM and BCM Mixed up !

The alternator on my cars does have Canbus (or is it Camden - no that ia a place in London!) connection,   Never used Forscan, but I do have a Colourtune, compression tester and a Xenon timing light ! Are they any use ?

Hi Paul, I see you are still having problems with .......

no matter, I know what you mean 👍

FORScan is a very good software programme that is as close to the Ford main dealer diagnostic software that none dealers can get. The standard version is free, and dose most things you would want. If you buy the licence (about £10) then it opens up all of the programming capability. You will also need one of the new style connection leads (you have to buy for £35).

Since you have 2 Fords you will find it will pay for it's self in no time.

Download FORScan: https://forscan.org/download.html

Buy lead from here: https://www.bmdiag.co.uk/forscan-diagnostic-cable-for-ford-vgate-vlinker-fs

Thanks - Paulkp, sorry for the late reply.

Also I have  not reset the battery management system (BMS) for my two new batteries replaced since I did not know how to do that and did not find the relevant instructions for doing this. I did try to do this by using the methods found in this forum for general fiesta but just no response (i.e. battery light did not flash on the display window).

Also I have not reset the smart charging system for new batteries installed.

For the battery size, I went to my local ford dealer who found the battery for me by using my car reg number, but when I tried to install it at home and found the battery height is >175mm (the width and length are right). For similarity, I just modified the fixing bar on the top of battery by using the mental wires. As I mentioned, this is an aftermarket Ford battery, it was cheap and I was told by Ford that the warranty is 3 years. Finally, the battery lasted 2 years and 3 months, so not too bad.

After this ford aftermarket battery dead, in Jan. 2021 I ordered the B18 Varta Blue Dynamic Car Battery 12V 44Ah (544402044) (063) from www.tayna.co.uk, £49, with a warranty of 4 years as shown in their website, but now the battery went to flat for 2 times already. This is the reason that I created my question here for help in finding possible reasons for this.

As mentioned by unofix, it might be that I did not reset the smart charging system requiring using Forscan. I will search how to use Forscan to reset it, though currently I have no confidence to do this.

Will report if any further findings on the issue.

Thanks

Exactly, in my fusion 2010, there is a small auxiliary connector (3 pins with different colors) on the alternator. But if the new battery has the quite similar capacity compared to the original one, for example, my original ford battery is 43Ah while the new battery 44Ah. Do we still need to reset the smart charging system by using FORscan?

Thanks

Hi @ford2188 there is no actual reset of the smart charging system. The level at which the alternator charges the battery can be adjusted using FORScan.

The actual battery capacity can also be adjusted but the difference between a 43Ah and 44Ah is just not worth the time to do it.

Resetting the BMS can be done in a few different ways depending on the model and age. I'm not sure that your 2010 vehicle has the the BMS fitted. Take a look at the negative battery lead very near where it connects to the battery terminal. If there is a small black plastic box (like a small box of matches) connected to the negative lead then you have a BMS.

Now I understand that for some situations where a new battery is with a large different in capacity from the original one we need to adjust the level at which the alternator changes the new battery using FORScan.

Thanks. I have checked my car and it seemed to be no BMS since I did not find a small black plastic box as shown below:
