I have been offered an 8gb download which is recognised by sync via usb and tells me things like voice commands and Gracenote will be unavailable until complete.

 

I follow the prompts to confirm but there is none of the usual update in progress displayed in the titlebar. Any ideas? I have no “confidence” anything as happening...

I am on build 20136 with Gracenote 1.1.1.1319 and maps F9 if it helps.

I checked the ford website just to see if there’s anything new. Got the usual up to date message. 
I got sync 3.4 from the website but the F9 maps I got OTA. 
Have you got auto updates turned on? And a wifi signal? 
It’s guesswork from me here. File names may help other members help you out....

I have auto-updates switched on and performed a manual check - s/w is up to date. Ford do claim this is a map update.

I suspect part of the update did work the first time I tried it when I went for a drive. I remember being asked to restart the car - which I did. Since then it repeatedly tells me functions will be disabled while the update is installed, but does nothing afterwards.

When I check the Ford site, the above zip is offered. I'm thinking factory reset at this point as there is no indication on-screen that the unit is actually performing any further updates.

I believe there were two versions of the F9 maps released , the 1U5T-14G421-B*F and later the 1U5T-14G421-B*G files
The early update to F9 used the ...B*F files and didn't (I think?) update the NAv voice files  4U5T-14G422-B*E

If you managed to get the early update then I suspect you're now being offered the updated maps and voice files.

I only bought the car mid-December - it appears not to have been updated since manufacture. Multiple times I've uploaded a log file and minutes later received another zip.

This update seems to be in two parts. The first worked, the second has not. At least, the last of on-screen updates suggests the second part is not taking effect.

Mine was manufactured August 2019. From factory it was sync3.3 and F8 maps.

Finally got the F9 maps OTA a few months ago. I’ve left auto updates on ever since. Once or twice it’s told me it’s downloading something ,  tar.gz files . (I don’t know what that means! ) but I have a list of files somewhere. I think it was starting to download map files that I already have. 🤔

I have more or less the same issue but posted here Map update after F9 does nothing? - General Ford Related Discussions - Ford Owners Club - Ford Forums before I saw your original post. The update never finished but I don't get any error messages now. However the Ford website keeps offering me the same 8 GB update.

Looking at the replies to your post I can now see that my original update to F9 maps used the B*G file names and the new update also lists the B*G file names. However on the latest smaller update the time stamp on the files is a few hours later on the 12 December. So I think perhaps the car is not updating because it thinks it already has the B*G files but the Ford website is treating the two versions of the B*G files as being different?

An update. I performed a factory reset. I checked via online updates (WIFI) - nothing new. I inserted my USB stick, and I am now repeatedly prompted to apply the update but it proceeds to do nothing.

I have just reached out to Ford UK via Twitter as I'm uncertain who to turn to next. I doubt my local dealer will show much interest unless they watch me get my credit card out...
