The reduced fuel efficiency is the result of the skipped cylinder deactivation.

I suspect that in the near future even more trim levels, features and/or engine types will be skipped. The Fiesta and Focus ST for example seriously affect the average emission targets that needs to be met. I would not be surprised if the Fiesta and Focus ST disappear within the next Year.

Ford officially announced that in 2026 100% of its passenger vehicle range in Europe will be zero-emissions capable, all-electric or plug-in hybrid; moving to all-electric by 2030. As a result of this it is completely understandable that the development / further development of Petrol and Diesel engines and mild hybrid versions will be stopped.

No, me neither. By contrast Toyota have got their average emissions down through their long term use of hybrids, to the extent that they can afford to make the occasional car like the GR Yaris.

Also interesting to see the fuel efficiency for the Hybrid engines has gone down by 1mpg. :confused1:

Hmm maybe but I'm not sure cylinder deactivation being cancelled explains the mpg difference...

In addition to the two hybrids, the 1.0L automatic non-hybrid has also gone down in efficiency - but not the 1.0L manual non-hybrid (Zetec). Why would the Zetec not be less efficient as well? (unless they are still going to put cylinder deactivation in the Zetecs for a while?)

On the other hand, the efficiency of all the diesels is mostly the same, which would make sense because they have never had cylinder deactivation (I believe).

You've not hear the sound of the Focus ( Massy Ferguson) in Eco mode 😂
