There's already a surplus of electricity at night in fairness.  Fortunately nuclear & hydro plants can be easily controlled, unlike the old coal fired plants, so it's not as bad as it used to be.  I agree it won't be enough to cover all of the extra demand, but new tech can help out there as well.  We've mentioned various examples on the forum before, one idea is that it would be easy enough for large office blocks to install chargers in their carparks, and solar panels on their rooves, for workers to charge their cars during the day without increasing load on the grid.  Petrol station canopies could easily all have solar panels installed to reduce some of their load too.  There's no one simple answer, it'll be every little helps as Tesco say!

To further take this off-topic...  I'm still waiting for an Economy 10 smart meter to be made...  As if I want E7 with the most heat and hottest water at 8am, slowly declining for the rest of the day!? 🤦‍♂️  Most of my neighbours have switched though!
