MK4 Digital Instrument Cluster

Featured Replies

Hi all

One day would love to upgrade the instrument cluster on my MK4 focus to the new digital one which are now in the latest Focus MY and Pumas.

Have been keeping an eye out for them on eBay (still pretty pricey at the moment and rare!)

Found one out of a Puma included images below - does anyone know if the ones in the puma are the same part number as in the focus? Would I need to try flash the firmware on it with focus software?

looks like the same connection although i sadly doubt it will be as easy as un plugging the old and plugging in the new!

Wondering when it come to it if it’s easier to try get one out of a focus than flash a puma one.

Cheers

Marc

  • Seemed to go quite well. Screen turns off a few seconds after locking the car, about the same as the central screen. Got my voltage reader plugged in to the 12V and not seeing any obvious drain.

Have a search on Forscan forums, see if anyone has done it yet.

This can be done, it's plug and play with some forscan tweeking. Only the focus one fits the focus though as the brackets don't match. You will also need one with less mileage than you currently have for it to be edited by forscan. I'm going to do the mod as soon as one becomes available. Don't pay more than £500 - £700. Just wait a bit 🙂

Part number for the display is NX7T 10849 - SXB I have been told.

Are the digital clusters configurable for diesels and petrols as the petrols go upto X8 RPM but the diesels only go up to x6 or are there 2 different part numbers available?

No only one listed and can be configured for both

Hi, are the MK3.5 and the MK4 clusters actually the same shape, as in will the MK4 cluster drop straight in the same hole ?

Regards

I believe not

you are the only person i know that wants to have the new "horrendous" digital display. I'm actually proud to have chosen the analog display on my new focus.

My only question is did you try the new screen? I have driven 3 pumas with that display and one of these for 2 weeks. I can only say that i hated it. It had lagg and it was slow. Also i didn't like the colors as much as i though i would. The worst thing about the digital screens is that they do NOT add any features or extra information. You get the exact same info as when you use the analog gages and the center middle screen.

Please go to a ford dealer and try it in different ambient conditions. Driving in total darkness can be okay as you can lower the brightness a lot. I liked that.

Hi everyone, I have a Focus MK4 Titanium Petrol with an analogue speedometer. Is it possible to install a digital speedometer from a diesel model into a petrol version? If so, what modifications or configurations would be required?

LR

You could, but you would have to do a lot of work changing the firmware inside the IPC as a Diesel rev counter is not compatible with a petrol one

Just source a Digital cluster from a Petrol model

The digital clusters are exactly the same regardless of gearbox or engine. The part numbers only differ by model or model year.

Once programmed with your asbuilt and the missing asbuilt data from a similar car to yours that had digital dash, it will show the correct info.

Just be aware that you will need to turn off the parking brake light or it will flatten the battery and you may need to turn it back on to pass an MOT.

Ah, there you go.

So it's asbuilt not firmware that makes it display correctly

Which setting was that? I’ve been keeping an eye on Forscan forums and not seen anything about it being resolved yet.

Mines was set to usa on analogue clocks but on digital ipc has to be set to rest of world i think it says

When was your car built and what version of digital dash did you fit? (Last 3 letters of part number)

Hi Alexp999

I did this retrofit no problems on my MK4 2019 1L 125 ST Line X.

I sourced another cluster that was from a similar focus version off eBay for £395 and its pretty much plug and play. I read the horror stories about the park brake light staying illuminated after vehicle shut down at the 5 minute mark after the door lock light turns off however this problem never popped up for me, the 'brake' symbol switched back off as it should and stayed off no issues. i just copied as-built from donor car of where cluster was pulled from. I do find it wierd  how this appeared to be hit and miss for people trying to retrofit this with same model clusters and still having the issues with the light staying illuminated to the point the battery is completely dead which doesn't take long in this situation.

What version of cluster did you use?

hi pal

I wouldn't have a clue now, its been in the car nearly a year but it was pulled from 2022 ST Line X Focus the cluster itself. Sorry I couldn't be any more of help. I will try to find this info but not sure at this point without taking dash apart.
