Focus Mk4 St Line-X - Quality issues

Featured Replies

I’ve developed rattles which is really annoying as I had 2 years without any! On the door, next to the b pillar (?) on both sides. But only on certain road surfaces.

Indeed, me complaining 39 years ago certainly taught Ford dealers a thing or two 🤣🤣🤣

Can't help thinking at the futility of whinging about the quality of the wheels on this forum. Of course, it'll get it off your chest, trouble shared and all that. But really, wouldn't you be better o

Its quite simple. If I buy new, it should be new and perform as such. No scratches or software issues. More people need to speak out and moan about this stuff otherwise they'll just keep doing it and

Behind the Pillar Airbag ?

Give it a big shove back towards the outside and it seems to do the trick, well it did on mine and it hasnt done it since....caution though... don't over do it 😉

I think best way to describe where it is is on an older car the button to lock the car door inside is exactly where it is. If I press it down with my elbow while driving it stops. I don’t know if it’s connected but I’ve become accustomed to locking the doors while driving recently. Coincidence?

Still rattles when unlocked

Yeah, I know. I was literally told "it's just their finish, they aren't diamond cut, they are machined finished, they will have imperfections". What a load of BS! These are "new" wheels, apparently.  I hate them.

I do like the looks of the wheels from a distance, when I bought my car I couldn't decide on whether to go St-Line or St-Line X, as I like the interior, I thought the wheels wouldn't stand up to our salty road winters and wanted less of a low profile tyre, your wheels can be resprayed, but it seems crazy having to do that on new wheels.

Ah right, you may be onto something there as I've noticed when  double locking the car via the drivers door handle it seems to clunk a bit louder than it used too and occasionally I think the handle actually moves very slightly but not when I single tap/ lock.

If I use any other handle to double lock I dont get the louder clunk just a normal clunk and no movement of the handle I'm using which is usually one of the rear doors as I'm always in the boot last off to remove my work stuff if that makes sense.

Security in the works carpark are doing more rounds now so I've only been single locking the car up but double lock when I get home for overnight.

From afar, they look pretty good. As soon as you get somewhat close, you notice every single imperfection and it makes you seriously question your purchase.

Yes 👍

I think a high % of Focus Mk4 owners have had some sort of Software issue I certainly have and eventually got them fixed. With regard to your wheels there is no way they came out of the Factory in that condition I would guess they have been marked during the Pre Delivery Process, did you get talked into purchasing Paint Protection by any chance?

How could you 100000000000% know they came out of the Factory in that condition unless of course you were at the Dealership when the car came of the Transporter? and I certainly would not be 🤣 Rolling On The Floor Laughing if my Dealer had tried to fob me off with a new vehicle with wheels in that condition my reaction would have been more like🥵

I was fuming. I'm amused as to how much of a joke the quality assurance at Ford seems to be.

Can't help thinking at the futility of whinging about the quality of the wheels on this forum. Of course, it'll get it off your chest, trouble shared and all that. But really, wouldn't you be better off achieving an actual outcome by digging in deep with the dealer, then escalating it to Ford head office, even firing off a 'cc' letter to BBC Watchdog? Everyone here can actually 'do' nothing!

Well, I have been. They offered to fully refund me today and take the car off my hands.

I ideally wanted a replacement, but they refuted this idea. It seems like they’d rather not deal with me again.

I’d rather not be without a car so I need to decide what to do now!

If you are genuinely unhappy with the car then I'd be inclined to up their offer. If you don't it may niggle away at you and be something you might regret.

There's plenty of other cars available. Good luck in what ever you decide.

Based on what you have said in your original Post I would be handing the car back and taking my full refund but its your call at the end of the day.

However if you decide to keep the car it will be no good moaning to the Dealer later on because I think we all know what their answer will be when they have agreed to allow you to reject the car.

All the best with whatever you decide to do

You're lucky you were given the option, I wasn't!  Even offered to take a financial hit but they weren't interested...

Be aware all new cars are likely to have some niggles though, if you get a new model that doesn't require any software updates I'd be very surprised!

Return it, sell it, keep it... mmm... decisions, decisions. Doesn't matter what any of us think, it's your car, I'm sure you're big enough to make your own mind up.

Shameless bump but, I thought I’d give Ford another chance, found a new dealer, bought a brand new 2024.5 plate, factory order, Focus St-Line X with all the extras, and this time it actually arrived faulty on Day 1 with a duff sync module. They were unable to repair/replace said module as “we have no spare parts and no eta”

That car was immediately rejected. What on Earth is happening with Ford?! Am I this unlucky or are there some deep issues at Ford affecting their quality control and production output?

I even reached out to their executive office for an explanation or even to expedite a resolution as they were useless.

I suspect the impending closure of the Saarlouis plant has a lot to do with it. Pi**ed off workforces and top-notch quality seldom go hand in hand.

This is a highly politicised article but gives some idea:

Do you expect them still to be in business in 3 years time ?

Ford have totally lost their way, and haven't a clue. The Belfast Telegraph did a feature last week on Lisa Brankin, the MD of Ford UK & Ireland. (Article done as she was born in Lisburn, Co Antrim).

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/northern-ireland/meet-the-lisburn-woman-driving-change-at-ford-electrification-is-the-future-but-the-move-may-be-choppy/a1060324428.html

(attached as PDF as subscription needed!)

Because of severe government intervention, they have already taken their eye off production of proper cars.

She is blind to the issues that they face, and is forlorn at the slow take up of EVs in Ireland. It's because we have a huge dollop of common sense here, and can see through the big con.

She believes that Ford's future is secure with massive investment in EV production in Cologne, and massive job creation will ensue. She also hopes to produce EVs in Ireland! She is of course right, massive jobs will be created, but they will be in China & India, who will produce as much green crap as we want, all made using good old fashioned coal & gas!

Article is pay walled, but thanks for the summary. She’s useless and should step down.
