Confused about the speed of my St-Line

Featured Replies

Hello, I recently bought a MK8 St-Line advertised to be 140ps from evans halshaw. However on the driver side door it says 125ps. Some online checkers say it’s a 140ps St-line while one or two say it’s 123bhp. Can someone shed some light please, really confused.

What does your insurance certificate  say?

V5 logbook also contains the power level, albeit in kilowatts.

The door sticker should be the most reliable though. :g:

You've been sold a 125 if the sticker on the door says that.

Beat me to it, power will be on door sticker.

Ford Etis should say also to confirm.

Etis doesn't show the power level on all 1.0EBs.

Seems to on the mk 8 fiesta. But I only checked one to see if it did.

Some do, some don't.  Neither of mine did (Mk3 & 4 Focus) but my neighbours Mk7 Red Edition does.  Probably quicker for the OP to just send one of us his reg to check instead of working out which do or don't!

Yes, a 140 should be 103kw on the V5C. Mine also shows 140ps on ETIS and the door sticker, so sounds as if the OP has been sold a,125.

Incidentally when I first got mine there did seem to be some confusion on the look up tables on various insurers websites, but I would have thought that would be sorted by now. Certainly when I've used checkers recently looking for parts/accessories it's come up as 140ps.

Says 92w on log book and 125ps on door. What should I do as it was advertised as 140ps and that’s exactly what I wanted?

If you've been missold then take it back for a refund.

How long ago did you buy it?

Do you have a copy of the ad, or paperwork with 140 on it?

Yes, that's clearly a 125, so if they described it as a 140 it was missold. You need to check for any documents you have which will prove that. Unfortunately if all the paperwork you have refers to a 125 (and no doubt the ad will have been taken off the web by now), it could be difficult. Whatever, you need to get back to the dealership and raise the matter.

Hopefully there will be a receipt from the dealer too. I bought mine from a similar sized well known dealer and the BHP of the engine is shown on the description of what I purchased.

If my memory serves me correct I seem to recall someone else having an identical problem not many months ago. I've tried to search the forum for the discussion but I just get an error message.

I think you're right, not the first time we've seen this issue but I couldn't find it either! 😀

Problem could be, If all the dealer paperwork shows 125 and there's no copy of the original ad, it could be hard to prove that they claimed it was a 140, unless someone admits they described the car incorrectly.

Yes only bought 25 days ago so the dealer remembers me also got receipt anyway. They’ve offered me 300 compensation and a free service, what you all think ? (Ford EvansHalshaw)

I’ve notified EvansHalshaw they have offered me compensation of 300 and a free service. Thinking of taking it what you all think?

Well, that's good news - at least they've owned up!😀

Back in 2018 the difference between a 125 and a 140 at new list price was only £300, so from a financial point of view that seems reasonable. The difference between the two is not night and day imo but I guess it comes down to whether you are happy with what you now have or are always going to feel disappointed. Only you can answer that one.

They didn't offer you a free remap then?

Isn’t there a bigger turbo in 140ps version?

Evans Halshaw are an abominable dealer chain.  Their only interest is selling cars and getting rid of you once you've bought it.

...on the other hand, our Titanium was bought unseen from a branch of EH and they went out of their way to answer questions and to send further photos and videos, and the car was delivered to our door and was immaculate- faultless customer service throughout.

Yes, I also have had nothing but fantastic service from our Evans Halshaw dealership. Over the years they have really gone out of their way to help us out with issues that were out of their control, they have loaned us cars (long term, free of charge) as well as being very fair and competitive with pricing etc.

This is regarding new car sales and support, I cannot comment on their used car section.

If I personally had been missold a 125hp as a 140hp, I wouldn't be happy. Would always be thinking it wasn't what I wanted or wasn't what I bought.

Would have thought they could do better than £300 plus a service!

What is the price difference between a comparable 140 and 125 on the used car market?

It would be interesting to see how many ordinary everyday folk could tell the difference between a 125 and a 140 if they didn't know which was which!
