Confused about the speed of my St-Line

Isn’t there a bigger turbo in 140ps version?

There are some physical differences.  But you can map a 125 up to around 150 or so on the standard parts.

Evans Halshaw are an abominable dealer chain.  Their only interest is selling cars and getting rid of you once you've bought it.

This has been my experience with every dealer chain so far...maybe it's just my area though!  (Or maybe I'm just incredibly annoying...)

At one time I had a 140hp mk7.5 and the Mrs had a loaned 125hp mk7.5 and the difference on those cars was very noticeable.

I now have a 140hp mk8 and she has the 155hp hybrid mk8 and the difference between these 2 is huge!

It would be interesting to see how many ordinary everyday folk could tell the difference between a 125 and a 140 if they didn't know which was which!

I don't know if it is the same in the Mk8, but on the Mk7.5, the 125 and 140 have a different final drive to make the gearing shorter on the 140. It means the 140 has more acceleration than just the small power boost.

Yes, that's right Alex. In 6th, for example, the 140 does 26.16mph/1,000 rpm compared to 29.3/1,000rpm for the 125. My gut feeling is the difference in gearing has more effect than the small power increase.

You're probably right but the OP does.

Personally I'd always feel robbed as the 140 is what I went to buy.

If I personally had been missold a 125hp as a 140hp, I wouldn't be happy. Would always be thinking it wasn't what I wanted or wasn't what I bought.

Would have thought they could do better than £300 plus a service!

What is the price difference between a comparable 140 and 125 on the used car market?

Yeah, it's up to Dylan in the end, but tbh I'd probably also feel I wasn't getting what I wanted. We don't know the exact circumstances of course, as to whether it was a try-on or a genuine mistake, or how the car was priced versus others in the first place.

I keep an eye on prices at the local Ford dealer and it's very difficult to compare. Many ST-Lines seem to have been ex-Ford cars and are advertised as "mega-spec" or similar blurb, so a fully loaded 125 could be priced above a stock 140.

I think there is no way the dealer could not know what he was selling. They must be desperate of not selling the 125ps version for so long, so they decided to label it as 140ps… if you don’t mind and are happy with the car keep it..  but I would felt cheated!

I think you're giving them far more credit than they deserve...  Sales people rarely know anything about the cars they're selling in my experience.  They can generally get the colour correct...anything else is a lottery.

The incompetence of some dealers and sales people, wouldn't surprise me if they didn't know.

Yes, sadly we've said this many times. I generally find sales staff quite strong on selling finance plans, extended warranties, GAP insurance, paint/fabric protection, etc, etc, but pretty weak on technical detail. It could be that by being on forums like this we aren't "normal" customers and maybe the sales people focus on what the average customer is interested in, rather than power, torque, number of cylinders and so on.😀

LOL sad but true. When I was selling FF mk4 1.0eb one of the official Ford dealers told me its a pitty that it is not a 1.5eb, because 1.5 is not a 3 cyl. engine 😄.

If it's a brand new car, that will most likely invalidate any warranty you have, unless it's a licenced performance pack type thing.

If you're not bothered about warranty, then go for it.

It's a mis-sold car so you have every right to get your money back.  They don't want that as it affects their figures and costs them.  Unless you go mountune a remap will invalidate the 3 year warranty.

There must be many other 140s out there.
