new map update sync 3

Featured Replies

You don't have to do a 2 hour trip to do the updates. Just leave the USB stick in the car, each time you start the car and drive it will resume the installation. The only negative thing is that installation will resume from the last complete file that it installed.

I’m a bit confused. My car (21 Focus) is telling me I’ve got Maps 10 but this latest maps update is 10? The website is telling me I have a map update available, Is the update actually 10.1? Or 11?

I downloaded the logger tool to check that the cars stats are correct on the website after performing a couple of Sync updates since I’ve had it. But is still says there is a map update available.

I rarely drive longer than an hour, (mostly 20 minutes) so it’s a bit of a pain to do a special 2hr trip just for a map update.

If you dont upload your log file to the Ford website it wont know you've upgraded, similarly if you use the cyan;abs update path then Ford will always tell you that there are updates available,

Time for another log update.

That is true.  I successfully installed F10 maps after unofix posted that info on another thread.  Interrupting the install does seem to have a considerable impact on the time it takes going by my experience.  It took a combination of journey times of 55min, 1hr15min, 15min then 25min to install ... in fact I kept the engine running on the drive for 10 minutes at the end of the last one.  It's possible that changing radio stations may pause the install too as the Updating Software message disappeared for a couple of minutes after I did that so I only did it once!

Hi @Tolly for confirming that. Yes it will indeed extend the time, it's just luck as to how much. The full normal uninterrupted install takes approx 90 minutes. Doing it in stages it just depends when you pause the install, as the incomplete file will be cancelled and started again. Thats not a big deal if it's only 3 or 4 Mb but if it happens to be the larger files like 5 Gb then that does add quite a bit of time.

This is a great info! Thank you guys for this, I have been sitting on that maps update waiting for such a long trip, but now i will just go ahead and hopefully update that thing during my daily commute. Just to be sure, no problem on turning off the car for the lenght of the work day, while keeping the usb pen connected, right? It wont keep going and drain the battery or ruin the current maps/sync?

Thank you

no you will be fine, i have done it myself. it just starts from the beginning of the last file it was installing.

Hello again, Billybob66 and unofix.

So I have done like you said, connected the usb with 24gb map update to the car right before a +/- 50mins car ride, then turned it off when I got to my destiny.

Thing is, when I turned it on again later, it did say "installing update" but a couple mins later gave me a MEM_ERR03... I still left the usb plugged in but since then, i get that error every time I start the car.

From all I have read on the forum, I believe it means that the device no longer has enough free space to copy the files to, right?

So, what can I do to fix this, and be able to finish the update? Can you guys help, please?

Thank you very much!

Well, may this serve as a warning for anyone coming across this thread like it happened to me: do *not* start the maps update unless you are willing to do an at least 2 hour trip! Otherwise you will be stuck with this mem_err03. ☹️

Hello Rui, just seen your posts about the update. Have you disconnected the car battery for 20 minutes ?

It should reset the modules.

I’m still stuck with this message on the Ford site ‘It appears there is an issue with the uploaded log file. Our team will review shortly and update your account to reflect the current version of SYNC in your vehicle. We recommend using Wi-Fi updates where available for your vehicle.’

This is from when I attempted. USB update in Nov 2023!
The wifi updates are interrupted if I drive away from my house. It took me around 3 weeks of starting the car outside my house, then switching it off to do a full map update. Using a battery monitoring bluetooth adaptor I saw battery drain for 30mins each time.

Despite the system now saying it is up to date, I found I was still getting battery drain every time I switched off the ignition. I have now disabled ‘automatic software updates’ to prevent this.

Hello unofix! Thank you for replying!

No, I have not done that - you mean phisically disconnect the battery, as in removing the cables?

If so, I wouldnt be confortable doing that, the battery is inside/under some kind of plastic cover, not easily reachable, plus Im afraid that could also trigger other faults... Is there anything else I could do to fix this mem_err03 error thing?

At this point I wouldnt mind giving up on the map update

Thank you again for any help you can give me

You only need to disconnect the Negative battery lead.

I can try and find that - but wont it cause other problems? Like triggering alarm or losing other car settings, maybe require a radio code or something when reconnected?

I was thinking that maybe there was a way to install some part that could override or wipe whatever file remnants got stuck there
