As I alluded to a few posts back ALL(shock horror)brands have their issues,so don’t go on about how ‘bad’ Ford is.If you want to go down that road,Vauxhall Astra(Holden here) we’re just rubbish, terrible, terrible reputation. Then we have Holden bringing in that Vauxhall/Opel insignia, which was renamed Commodore(to replace the last Holden Commodore),they did not last long in the market place,no further comment on those.Ford’s  Powershift trans was a debacle,so much so,that there was a class action against them. Now they have gone back to a conventional trans.VW?DSG trans was a shocker, class action again,VW are terrible to deal with, just throwing customers under the bus(fact). They we’re taken to court here in Australia, yep, they lost.I have had many Fords, some brilliant, some so,so.All the Ford Falcons I have owned have been very, very good, bullet proof engines. All the Japanese vehicles I have owned?Issues? Very, very little.I have worked in the industry..MB?Another brand to stay away from. They just do not look after their customers.Multiple issues here in Australia with MB HQ.Might pay you to research a little bit better in future.

Youve had one ford, and you’ve bought a 13 year old one (that may or may not be ***** but, you bought it), yet you slate the whole brand, it might have a problem with the AC or it could be you we don’t know.

Many many years ago I bought for my wife a 12 years old Mazda for a few months before we moved abroad. It was in an awful condition, nevertheless I would not judge Mazda by that experience.

I am always intrigued when people try to compare Japanese vs non-Japanese brands. These people usually forget about the overwhelming process of globalization.

And compare Japanese cars made outside Japan with those in Japan. There's certainly is or was a difference in build quality / reliability.  There were a few vehicles I worked on that had production lines added in European and other countries. Essentially the same vehicles but with components sourced/ manufactured  locally. The difference was shocking!!

So when I'm referring to Japanese vehicles, I'm meaning those actually built in Japan.

A lot of Japanese brands that are manufactured outside of Japan are fine.As you well know Nissan produces the Qashqai,Infinity,Juke & Leaf @ Sunderland.I have had two Qashqai’s never had an issue, very good build quality, well put together. My Honda CRV is manufactured in Thailand, quality? It is fine,no complaints @ all.A lot of Japanese vehicles for our market are manufactured there.Reason?Free trade agreement between Thailand & Australia.Honda has now shut down @ Swindon, all our Honda’s will be now sourced from Thailand,Japan(Civic) & the US(Type R).Reliability has nothing to do we’re it is built, all the engines are the same in any brand, irrespective we’re they are manufactured.

I fully agree. That was our experience some years ago with our Toyota fleet. One part was made in Turkey, other in Japan.

Huge difference in build quality and reliability.

Yeah, basically identical vehicles made in Japan then Spain. They even drove differently. The Spanish version had so many warranty claims against them. This admittantly was back in the late 90's early 2000's

The majority of our Toyota’s are manufactured in Thailand(Corolla now comes out of Japan) Hi-Lux as well, very few issues with them.Land cruiser & Rav4 out of Japan.Yaris out of Thailand.
