Mk8 Focus washer jet issue, advice needed please .......

So after a bit of researching I decided to try and locate the washer bottle.  Turned out if was handy enough, just took the front wheel off then took out a few clips and couple of screws and peeled back the guard.  The two pumps were easily removed and as you can see the gauze for the front and back washer was heavily clogged.  A quick clean with a brush and the jets are working fine again 💦😀

Well done, who doesn't like a happy ending!

Excellent news Paul, I had assumed that yours was the Mk4 with the tank buried deep inside the wheel arch / bulkhead.

I blame @StephenFord for the problems with mine. He recommended the "Cherry" screen wash. I don't remember him saying I should get it without the 'stones' 🤣

Probably gunge from too high a concentration of screen wash, which then blocks everything and causes the washers not to work. Might want to reduce the concentration so that doesn't happen, so instead the washer liquid freezes and the washers don't work.

Hmmm, I think I see a problem here.

Morning all & thanks for accepting me onboard, I have the same problem as Paul above. I have a 21 plate focus, Fords locally cant get my car for awhile but Paul's was a quick fix & I'm going to give it a go tomorrow morning. But can someone please just explain exactly where these gauzes are? It looks to me like the pumps stay in situ? So where are the gauzes? I've tried blowing up Paul's pics but its very blurred so I cant quite make out where the one Paul is holding is from.  Thanks in advance for any help. Btw I've been using the windscreen washer fluid as bought from Ford's, if its clogged the washer system its not exactly a ringing endorsement. I think in future I'll just use, as someone upthread suggested, plain water? But I live in a hard water area so I'm wondering if that may "chalk up" the system as well

From those pics it looks to me as though he's removed the pump from the tank and unclipped the bottom part with the gauze from the pump body.

It's not a good idea to use plain water as it'll freeze in winter. If you're worried about the hardness bottles of deionised water can be bought fairly cheaply. Alternatively use water from a filter jug. We are in a fairly hard water area and use a filter jug for our kettle to reduce the scaling.

As above, that cover fits over the pump inlet.  Just need to pull the pump from the bottle first.  (Any fluid above the level will drain from the hole, so prepare for that).

Also wouldn't recommend plain water.  Not only for freezing but it goes stagnant and breeds legionnaires disease.  Keep using screenwash, but don't pay a premium for the Ford branded stuff.

Haven't used screenwash in decades...can't beat plain, clean, tap water up here in God's own county.

Admittedly we are in a soft-water area, so don't have any problems with limescale or stagnation and the last time I looked in the mirror I didn't have Legionnaires Disease, and my car is garaged every night, so never had a problem with it 👍

Brilliant thanks for all the replies. I like the deionised water tip-very clever.

I'll have ago tomorrow all being well & weather permitting.

Tks again

I'm a proud Yorkshireman too, but given that Yorkshire Water have been fined the thick end of £20 million for failing to meet standards I wouldn't bank on it!😀

I've always used a high proportion of screenwash for the last 50 years or so with no issues. At present still using up the last of the complimentary stuff I got from various VW Group dealers over the years, but might have to buy some soon!

That untreated sewage is bound to leave smear marks on the windscreen 🤣 (or, is that skid marks??)

Ok didn't need to do any removing of wheel arch liner. I've had the car 18mths & never really had a really good look @ where the washer reservoir is. Its directly under the filler cap @ the rear of the OS ft wing. How you get to it I haven't a clue, except to say maybe the wing unbolts? Tks for all the suggestions & help, maybe being a MHEV they had to change things around.

Forgot to say that I've managed to get a slot for tomorrow @ my local Ford dealer, someone cancelled & I managed to get the slot. Happy days!!🙂

I reckon you still need to remove the arch liner for access.  Wings aren't removed for a job like this.

And it looks like its being done under warranty. Happy happy days.
