miroslav333
Hi, I have a Ford FIesta MK2 1.6D which was sitting for roughly 8 years. I have got it started (and running), but only on fuel from external source (bottle which was feeding the injection pump with diesel fuel thanks to gravity). Although there is diesel in the tank, there is none coming from fuel filter inlet when the engine is running. So my question is : might this be a faulty fuel pump ?, or just some air bubble somewhere else in the fuel system ?, or is there just not enough diesel in the tank to be picked up ? I do not have much knowledge about old diesel engines and neither this one. Thanks for the advice in advancve.
Tizer
If the Diesel has been sitting in the tank for 8 years then it may now be contaminated with Bacteria or Fungi. If you google Diesel Bacteria there is a lot of information. Here is a link to Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microbial_contamination_of_diesel_fuel#:~:text=Diesel bug is contamination of diesel fuel by,the air — modern biodiesel is especially hygroscopic.
