St-Line Oil pressure engine failure

Hi again,

Firstly you now say my car is mk4, well I said I would look on auto trader to decide. Well I have looked but cannot find the answer as no means of searching for make.

Second, no say I posted that it had a wetbelt. No, I said I had heard about that . In fact the dealer hasn't provided an explanation for the failure.

When the problem first arose ( oil warning light etc) they found that almost all the oil has gone. So they filled it up with 3lt and asked us to drive for 600mls and then return so they would check the level.  It only went 300 before the lights came on again. As far as I'm aware they have not done any checks,  merely saying the engine is a write-off

I wonder if you can reply to my question on the ford contribution vis-a-vis the fact the car wasn't purchased from a Ford main dealer?

The log book codes you provided suggested that it is a Mk4.

The front of a Mk4 looks like this -

The front of a Mk3.5 looks like this -

Thank you for that confirmation.  Almost every thread about oil lights and EcoBoost failure on here are caused by wetbelt failing so that is the assumption we made when you added to this thread instead of starting a new one.  (Not blaming anyone, just clearing up the earlier confusion).

Loss of oil is very unusual on this engine.  Without a diagnosis, we can't say why that has happened.  It is possible that the low oil level has caused further damage, possibly even seized the engine solid, but without knowing the cause of the loss in the first place, there's not much we can say about that.  The Ford techs must have done some form of diagnosis to suggest that the engine is a total loss so I'm not sure why they haven't passed that information on.

As for buying the car from a non-Ford dealer, that does mean the car could have been serviced or maintained incorrectly, so they are well within their rights to reduce the goodwill gesture for that.  Also remember they are not legally required to offer any financial assistance outside of warranty.  The goodwill gesture is effectively a 'favour' rather than an obligation.

If the engine is a total loss, and Ford's contribution isn't adequate, you can look into alternative options such as having an independent garage fit a new engine instead.

Thank for your reply.

I accept that legally Ford are not required to offer anything, however they must be aware of this major problem (law suit filed in the states this June, etc etc)

So, in my book, it's more that good will.

As for having another garage to fit an engine, first for me it would have tobe Ford dealer and if approached  one who have quoted 8k, our dealer say 6.2k.

As for any diagnosis I will take this up with the dealer on Monday.

Law suit I believe is on the previous wet belt version. I'm not aware on here of anyone having issues with the later chain r Harding loss of oil/burning of oil. You may be just unlucky with a badly manufactured engine that over time has started burning oil. As there's no real evidence of this engine type having lots of failures unlike the wet belt type, I would get a used engine off eBay and have a garage fit it. £1100 on eBay I've seen

Hi and thanks for your message, so far being a complete novice I don't know whether the car is one having a wetbelt or not.

Can't even confirm the mark since the car is with the dealer and although tomsfocus has provided pictures we can't be sure.

Apologies for being such dummies

Do you remember what it looked like inside?

Definitely like mk4 with the sat nav .

I'd be pretty surprised if a 2019 reg car wasn't a Mk 4 (as per bottom photo above). The Mk 4 was launched in 2018 and the reviews were appearing by June on an 18 plate, as in fact shown on the blue car in the outside pics posted by Tom earlier.

I've seen mention of several class actions in the States, but definitely all connected to the wet belt version.

B7da is 125hp  chain engine in mk4.
