OK, you definitely need a new battery fitting and you definitely need the relearning process doing.

Now, you have two options:

1: Take the hit and pay Ford's price for the battery

2: Pull the car out of Ford, park it on the road and fit the battery yourself BUT YOU MUST clean the earth straps before connecting the new battery, if you do it after the re-learn it will forget all the settings again

3: Book it back into Ford and Tell them, in no uncertain words, to SHUT UP about needing a new gearbox and demand that they update the software in the PCM & TCM and to perform a relearn and a reset of the adaptive learning. THIS MUST BE DONE after cleaning earth points and after new battery fitted.

If they still refuse, then they are *****, tell them so and tow it to another Ford dealer for the relearn, update, re-set, then complain to FORD CRC about them.

Or, buy a decent OBD lead, pay for a 1 year Forscan licence and do it yourself after fitting battery (About £50 for the lead and £15 for the 1yr licence)

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THE CAR until you have fitted battery and performed re-learn

Just sandpaper will do, just from the area where the eyelet sits silicone grease is good enough

Watch these videos, the bottom one explains the greasing, the first one is to reset after reconnecting battery.

Just to clarify a point on what Getrag Powershift trans is fitted to Alisons veh

As it is a 2 litre it is the 6DCT450 trans which has WET clutches. the trans oil and filter should be changed every 3 years or 37,500 miles, whichever occurs first.

Absolutely. Get the car running again Alison, then take it to a transmission specialist to get the fluid and filter changed
