MK3 Gearbox replacement codes

Featured Replies

I've got a gearbox with a serial: AV6R7201JC  that's on its last legs.   Could I replace my gear box with any starting AV6R7201, do the last 2 letters matter when replacing?
Or would I need to match the codes exactly?

my car is a ford focus mk3 1.6 tdci econetic 2012

Any help would be appreciated massively.

I would say the best answer would come from @JW1982 😀

The last 2 letters matter usually.

First of the 2 is the variant, second one the engineering change level. So variant needs to match but engineering change level can be different.

Could be that different variant gearboxes can be swapped which I’m sure someone will point out if that’s the case 🙂

Part number AV6R-7201-JC is the part number of the shifter mechanism assembly that is installed into the gearbox. This is not the part number of the gearbox.
