fiesta 2006 aux socket replacement

Featured Replies

hi im going to replace this socket on my daughter fiesta but cant seem to remove the old without  seaming ton break it and does the new one just push in from underneath or do have to dismantle it here is pt number of item 1365708 thanks baz

You need something like a wood chisel or a strong knife, to get between the socket and collar.

The centre section of the socket (about the size of a 1 pence coin) can be prized out from the surrounding plastic collar. Once it starts to move forward you just pull it out. The plastic collar is then removed from the hole by rotating it until the 'ears' line up with some small notches in the hole.

ok thanks i don't know why the socket is so awkward to remove does the new one push in from underneath or does need to be  separated first is there a diagram for the socket don't want to damage the new one  from what you say you have slice the top of the existing one first i.e. the collar  thanks baz

NO cutting is required.

The centre of the socket just comes out of the collar. They are designed to be fitted and removed from the front. There is no need to gain access to the back of the socket.

If you buy the replacement part first you will see it comprises of two parts. An outer collar, and the socket. They are very easy to remove and refit, it should take less than 10 minutes.

i got one from ford but its in one part how do you take it apart  i.e. the centre part don't want to break it

Perhaps the design has been changed from that of the original. Can you post a photo of the new socket ?

On some other types of socket they are removed by rotating them 90 degrees anticlockwise.

hi again its this one

Just picked up your message. I'd missed the photo you posted.

You will need two small flat blade screwdrivers. Slide one screwdriver down the flat space each side of the socket and push the tabs inwards to release them.

thanks still wont budge the tabs are an intral part of the centre section on the red arrow its just one casting baz

Is it located next to the gear stick?  If so, pop the gaiter up then reach underneath the socket to squeeze the tans and push it upwards.

this the socket does it go in from the bottom and still having trouble dismantling it if has to be replaced thanks again

The sockets are fitted from the front and therefore have to be removed from the front.

It is of a two part construction.

'08 Mk6 Fiesta

I'm in the same boat as Baz, who I see hasn't been on here since April '22. I've got the replacement socket, and I'm thinking I've got to take the gearstick gaitor off to get to the underneath of the old one,, and even then I'll be working blind and with one hand. I can't even prise the tags of the new one apart, and that's in my hand! Anyone replaced one of these...?  Unofix's earlier advice, doesn't seem to apply to this version.... Thanks!

I've just found this YouTube guide, showing a grey and black socket, different part number (1310208) but else much the same. Looks like 2 hidden tabs to tackle, but can't see how to do it without removing the entire centre console to get access to the rear of the socket. However, plenty of youtube guides how to remove centre console, so that bit seems easy enough. To be continued....

I bought the socket, and foolishly moved the collar up while trying to work out how the thing worked. I have tried to move it back down again with no success at all....  I have no idea how the existing one is supposed to come out, or how the replacement is supposed to go back in.  Not that I can now use the new one of course. I've got to the stage of thinking it'll be easier to fit a replacement head unit! Any advice from somebody who is familiar with these things would be brilliant 🙂

You can remove the trim panel around the gearstick quite easily (Haynes P11.29 para 26.3-4.  Basically prise up the gear gaiter trim ring, then un clip the trim panel, unplugging the 12V and audio jack as you go,

Hi I've just today replaced the aux socket! What is it you've done with the collar?...Ah, ok, you mean your new socket came as 2 seperate parts likely in this pic? And you put them together and now can't seperate?

There are 2 ways to separate them, watch step 5 of that youtube guide, but you'll need 2 really very thin screwdrivers, and it'll help to have the old one to hand, so you can see and understand  what the tabs lock into and what you're trying to achieve.

The other way to part them, is a bit risky as you could break the tabs, as the chap in the video did, but I got away with it, phew!  is to hold the socket in both hands, and to push up with thumbs and down with fingertips and force the tabs out. Like in the pic.

To do the whole job, I had to firstly remove the gear knob and gaitor, there is a YouTube guide how to do that.

2ndly, remove the handbrake surround and top of centre console. Again, there is a YouTube guide to help.

Both those steps are dead easy and quick, once you've viewed the YouTube guides. btw, when removing the console, you'll see you have to disconnect the lighter and aux socket connectors when you start to lift it up.

Remove the console, turn it over and look at the rear of the aux socket: those 2 tabs you can see opp each other are part of the top. I had to push those tabs firmly down while sort of holding the main body of the socket with my fingers. When I say 'down' I mean towards the inside surface of the console. You don't bend 'em just push. Hard. The top part of the socket will pop out, so DON'T have the console resting on a flat  surface, else it'll be prevented from coming out...put it on your lap.IMG_20240609_150535.thumb.jpg.e80e58f4530e2fe4b71654766467e685.jpg

You'll then find you can remove the main body of the socket, followed by the top bit, but from the inside, not try to lift it out of the top, as the ends of the 2 tabs, or legs,  make it hard to remove from the hole topside.

btw(2), if you didn't read my earlier post, then view this, the only guide I cld find on the aux socket:
