H7 Dipped beam upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi, Can someone please recommend a bright white upgrade for the H7 dipped beam bulbs for my MK3 focus, I have tried night breaker lasers but not very white, and there are so many different led's out there I don't know where to begin. I don't really want to go HID's. Thanks 👍

NOVSIGHT H1/H4/H7/H11/9005/9006 LED Headlight Bulbs 50W 8000LM Canbus Error Free

it will feel like u got a xenon upgrade - illegal, no insurance but at least you can see to avoid the crash

had them in mine for 4 years - u don't want fans and such rubbish - don't go brighter u really want 3000 lumem per bulb (above are 4000 each) 5k bulbs but the idiots don't make them - don't expect to see anything if its foggy

Sorry - can you clarify this please.  Thought your bulbs were 8000 lm???

they are plain silly - the ads all state the combined output of BOTH bulbs so if it says 8000 LM its 4000 each.  I believe the law has max output of 2100 LM each - so the maniacs putting in 10000LM each side should be locked up

halogens I think are about 800 LM at 3400k

you want 4600k which is the last iteration of xenon's any whiter and mist and fog is a nightmare - xenon I think were 2100 LM and 4300k each - then they went a bight brighter and a bit whiter

looks like the idiots went further towards blue (you need pink / yellow in heavy fog - which it more like 3200k )

novsight are the later name of nighteye - which as far as I know are the premium brand of LED in the after-market world

Yes, genuine brighter upgrades are pretty much always illegal, otherwise the car manufacture would have put decent bulbs in the first place. I have spent a fortune over the years 'upgrading' bulbs (in other cars), and the significant improvements have all come from 'illegal' bulbs. HID and LED being the brightest upgrades. Ordinary Tungsten 'upgrades' are all a matter of cool marketing, and that magic pack shot on the cardboard showing a dull road next to a very very bright one LOL

Thanks for the input guys 👍

How do you manage with non-standard bulbs and MOTs in Northern Ireland? I have read that they are a lot more thorough over there and have to be done at government run test centres.

Do you have to swap back to standard bulbs for the MOT test?

Yep, Swapping the bulbs is the only option, plus the test center's make you sign a disclaimer so if they mess up your car while its being tested there's no comeback   😭

Yes! We have no mission of getting 'illegal' bulbs passed. Northern Ireland centers are government run, so pros and cons. They are usually very fair as they have no invested interest in failing something so they can repair for profit (don't do repairs, just testing!), though, they are awfully strict LOL

Oh, there is NO disclaimer needing signed in Northern Ireland... (You may need that in Southern Ireland - different country)

VERY strangely the UK MOT rules were updated in 2021 so motorbikes running illegal bright LED bulbs are OK to pass?

so a bike at eye level bouncing about on terrible roads with a short wheelbase is OK (yet illegal under construction and use regs)

but a long wheelbase car, with its lights way below eye level, which might even have the shield on the lamp unit stopping other's looking directly at the LED (like a focus mk2 has) is illegal

wot a world

fitted them yet ?

What's your opinion of the GT200, are they any good any whiter than standard? I fitted the led's had to get decoders even then they were extremely hot, uninstalled them luckily was able to sell them on

I'd like to fit something brighter to mine but the choice is endless as is some of the cost if you go down certain routes. I appreciate most go Nightbreaker at 150% allegedly they now do a 200%, and a hint of blue haha

If you want to go significantly brighter, you'll have to go down the LED route. Otherwise, with halogen, just choose the package with the brightest 'comparison' shot between old & new, those marketing people pay fortunes for those photos! LOL

I use Osram Cool Blue Intense (H1) bulbs for my extra main beams and static cornering lights (in a Mondeo with Xenon headlights), they are a bit brighter and give a whiter light than the standard and the Nightbreaker bulbs. White enough to almost match the DRL's and Xenon's (which are also Osram Cool Blue Intense)

don't bother with LEDs, they are useless in reflector headlamps the output is all over the place  and not focused where you need it (on the road)

these Philips ones are the best you are going to get, i went from 150's to 200 so i didn't notice much of a difference, but if your going front standard cheap bulbs, they are worth it

I agree with the cheap Chinese Ebay ones, however, there are now some proper branded ones on the market (not cheap), that do work properly...

the nighteye /novasight ones I have produce a very good beam pattern - they are a joy to drive with - if no one told you you'd believe you had xenons in the car - and they don't pop like halogens do in focuses do every week

as for glare on other divers they are less violent and nasty than a Nissan or a Merc running factory LEDs

as Stephen Ford mentions twice above - upgraded halogens are an utter joke - often dimmer and or no better than budget rot for 4 quid each and pop more even more often

them nighteyes aint a bad price

You can buy a dedicated 'resistor' adapter to stop that, around £12 on Ebay...

not sure how that will help, i don't think mine were flickering, just the output radios was all wrong, so going UP too much

LOL, I misunderstood, I thought your LEDs were 'flashing'! If that was the case you being 'flashed', it may have been solved by simply popping into a garage and getting your headlamps adjusted so the beam was more accurately aimed...
