MK4 Servicing prices?

Featured Replies

My previous car I always serviced it myself, my Focus needs it's first service in June, near me is a dealer who sells second hand Fords and services them, so will probably take it there, just not sure of the costs involved, a rough guide would be helpful.

Ford first service on a MK4 Focus is about £270.00

If your car is a 2020 then it would be unwise to not use a Ford dealer whilst it is still under warranty.

Yep, a 2020.

And you get one year Ford Assistance cover.

I'm guessing all the maintenance books are done on line now, just thinking ahead when I do service it myself, is Haynes manual still one of the best.

You can find most things on Youtube nowadays.  I haven't paid for a Haynes manual in the last 8 years.

My first Mk4 service cost me £200 at an independent place.

I couldn't find a Haynes Manual for the Mk4 last time I looked, and didn't find the one I had for my Mk2 as good as previous ones for other cars.  Probably because cars are becoming so complicated nowadays and there are so many options they can't hope to cover them all in one book.  Add to that all the small changes being made by manufacturers all through the production life of each model.

managed to find a paperback version for my Mk2 but its damn near useless, i get more from forums.

If you go onto the Haynes website, they now provide an online or downloadable workshop manual, forget the exact details but its worth a look. I'll be looking again when the warranty on my 2020 car ends. Also try one of the advertising links at the start of this forum, you can get quotes from your local ford dealer anonymously, but you can ID them by theier location!

Just checked the Haynes website, £26 for online only, will buy soon as I do not know where the oil filter even is yet, I'm the same as you, mine is a 2020.

You can save £26 by just looking down the front of the engine...

Aaah yes, but - not looked closely at mine yet but this also applies to the Skoda Rapid I had until recently, except that finding it was one thing, knowing which bits needed to be removed so you could ease it out was quite another!

Changing the Oil filter on the Focus Mk4 2.0 Diesel is a half day event for a home mechanic !!

I'm guessing car companies are making cars hard for home mechanics, as they want us to take them to a garage for servicing, a lot of things that is included, is visual inspection, in my opinion change the oil and oil filter, check air filter.

Tbf, car manufacturers don't want awkward/time consuming servicing as the extra costs can put off fleet buyers.  Hence moving to a 2 yearly oil change interval for example.

It's more the designers trying to cram as much as possible into as smaller space as possible, for the least amount of weight and an aerodynamic front end shape, to get the emissions as low as possible.

If a manufacturer came up with a basic low price, roomy, economical easy to work on  without all the bells and whistlevehicle as per the original mini, am sure it would fly off the forecourts

No longer possible due to emissions requirements and the amount of safety items that are mandated nowadays.  Dacia are probably as close as you'll get...  And considering how many of those we see on the roads, I'd guess most UK drivers would rather pay for a few bells & whistles after all.

You can also get tiny supermini's very cheap if budget is your main concern, C1/108/Aygo, Up/CitiGo/Mii, Pixo/Alto, Picanto etc.

OR, you can seek out a nice little runner like mine that's been around the block a few times 😅

Hard to do, considering it doesn't have Automated Emergency Braking, Radar Forward Avoidance,  Lane assist, etc etc. You actually have to drive the car, keep your eyes open, and your wits about you, just like the olden days, but I'll do my best LOL

That's correct. I cant even reset the ***** oil life without hooking upto the Laptop and Forscan.

The most effective safety feature would be a great big spike coming out of the steering wheel towards the driver's chest - that would make everyone focus on driving properly, slowly and safely!

Our recently acquired Noddy car ( Picanto) had £30 of petrol put in it 3 weeks ago and the needle has hardly moved and its covered a grand total of 68 miles.

Ah, if only peoples behaviour was that easy to control!  I reckon it'd just generate a new product line of chest shields...
