Washing Windows, what's a decent solution for my Fiesta ST?

Featured Replies

Hi all, lots of Sand from sahara keeps falling over my car each morning, would like to take care of this

What's a decent way to clean windows without water marks and scuffs?

Safe washing everyone

My go to window cleaner is Meguiars glass cleaner. It doesn't smear and dries squeaky clean. If you have sand on the glass, make sure you spray liberally so the sand doesn't scratch in, and use a good quality microfiber cloth... (Ideally with sand, you'd want to wash with soap & water first, but who could be *rsed with that every morning!)

I bought this Turtle wax 'Clearvue' last year and I have to say it's the best glass cleaner I have ever used.

Crikey, less than half the price of the stuff I've been using, may well give it a go!

and if you get it from Halfords you can use your FOC discount card. Only problem is Halfords are twice the price to start with 🤣

Well took your advice today after a visit to Halfords. £4.25 after FOC discount, and I noted my usual Meguairs has shot up to £12! Hope it works LOL

All good - getting use to the 'chemical' type smell, and because it's so much cheaper, I'm using it quite liberally, so will probably need a new bottle soon LOL

Yes the smell is quite something, just don't smoke while using it 🤣

I use it on the inside of my house windows, and on all the mirrors, glass top TV stand and a few other things.

Is it better to drink the gin, and if you imbibe too much you dont care if anything is dirty LOL

Have needed a new TurtleWax ClearVue for a couple of weeks now but haven't been near Halfords, and certainly not worth a specific drive to it. This morning I was in Asda, and noticed they have 'Demon' glass cleaner on roll back at £4, and that's for a full 1 liter trigger spray. (not just 500ml)

I have just tried it, and really can't see any difference in what I was using, cleans well, evaporates quickly and at less than half price of ClearVue. If you do buy it, double check your receipt as despite shelf ticket at £4 rollback, it came up at £5 LOL

i tend to add gass cleaner to my washer bottle along with screen wash, unsure if its a waste but a couple of squirts and im squeaky clean.

Glass cleaner is designed to be used neat, not diluted. Especially when your washer bottle holds 4 liters, a 'few squirts' won't even register. Still if it makes you happy, go for it LOL

I just use supermarket own brand glass cleaner.  Costs about a quid a bottle.  Putting 'car brands' on any item doubles the price!

Putting 'brands' on any consumer item increases the price, that TV ad they do, you're paying for it - big fan of 'lidls' own brands, and Asda 'yellow' labels LOL

And then wasting those savings on car products?

As we calculated a few weeks ago, some of the big brands are so big that the advertising barely adds anything to the item.  But I do agree that any branding costs more.  sometimes it is due to better quality, sometimes not.  I have done my own 'Shop Well For Less' style challenge lol.  Some own brand stuff is awful!

My own experiment is yes, an 'own brand' can of baked beans (for example) can be a bit tasteless, BUT, if you have a proper larder, with seasonings, you can easily compensate. (salt, pepper, worcesteshire sauce, tobascco, HP, paprika etc etc), and then, the food becomes 'yours' and so much more satisfying. I love cooking LOL

Ah, I hate cooking, not keen on eating in general tbh.  It's more about texture than flavour for me though.  I can't stand sauce on anything.  (Mushy beans in tomato sauce definitely not on my list lol).  Give you a chuckle, I've lived here 7 years and don't have any condiment in the cupboard, not even salt.

Oddly, I've found things as basic as Bakewell tarts or cookies are much better branded than own brand.  I only buy them when on offer though!

Finally, something to tell us apart 🤣
