Needless to say before this I knew nothing about the air con system except to switch it on 5 or 6 times a year when we get the odd fine day 🤣. Lesson learned, thanks again for the input, much appreciated 👍👏👏👏

The manual for my Mk2 says that the AC should be run for around 30 minutes every month.

This circulates the compressor oil around the system, which helps to keep the seals from perishing.

The AC is also useful in winter for clearing moisture from inside the car.

Why do you think you'll be paying £100? Get KwikFit (or similar) to check/re gas for much less...

He lives in Ireland, everything is far more expensive there, I know I visit 2 or 3 times year LOL

Information from Kiwk Fit's own website (August 2021)

The pricing depends on the refrigerant; with Kwik Fit, for R134A gas the cost to recharge is Ł59.95, and for R1234YF gas the cost is Ł129.95 to recharge

Going by the age of his car, 2006, I was assuming he'd be on the older (cheaper) gas...

Information from Ford

For 2006 Focus Hatchback First generation facelift (MK1) Ford recommends to use: R134a air conditioning refrigerants.

Indeed, taking it to your local barber, or greengrocer won't help 🤣

Even trying to get parts from the UK the postage cost is usually more than the part, and then you have to pay import duty 😭
