usb electrical problem

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone could help before I take my car in to be looked at. I have a 2017 1.1 ford fiesta. Yesterday when driving using apple carplay, i started getting messages through the screen saying that ‘the usb requires too much power. please remove’. I pulled over to switch the charging lead over to another one but the same message appeared until the apple car play turned off and would not go back on. Even with the usb unplugged, the message appears relentlessly even though there is nothing plugged into either usb slots. I really need to get this fixed asap. i have cleaned out the usb and reset the screen twice but still no luck.

Sounds like you have a faulty USB socket. I know you say that you have cleaned them but a tiny strand of anything conductive would be enough to short out the port.

Get the vacuum cleaner nozzle on them and give them a good clean. If you still get an overload message with plugged in then it's going to need the feed to the sockets disconnected to check what is actually causing the fault.
