monthly car insurance

I am a 69 year old and having trouble getting a reasonable quote for next year. Can anybody on here reccomend a insurance broker that I can get in touch with.I have been getting silly quotes of over £1200.Your help would be much appreciated.

There's a broker that hovers on this forum seeking business, I'm sure he'll be with you shortly... (I'm assuming you've already tried a comparison site such as this for example)

Your quote does sound steep, my 84 year old mum got her renewal last week at £460.

Depends on your age and if applicable previous driving history.

As an "older" driver, I've found Saga pretty competitive for a few years now.

But as James mentions in his post, I do have 50+years no claims and (amazingly) have held a full "clean" licence for the same amount of time. Only needing SD&P  cover these days for no more than 6000 miles a year probably helps, too.

Edit: just spotted you've posted virtually the same question elsewhere, but mentioned monthly payments which usually cost more in total than a one off annual premium.

Have you tried the comparision sites like Confused.com etc etc  if they're all giving quotes like that then there's not much chance of it being much lower.

I have 40+ NCD, my latest cost me just under £300 fully comp in feb this year. Agreed with Fembrit re. comparison sites, also be aware different ones can be cheaper on different days so its a kind of lottery who charges what, most will pricematch but its a nightmare trolling the T+C's for exactly the same cover. There can also be little difference between FC and TPFT.

Also be wary of some insurance companies/brokers who quote you a really cheap price...If you've called them check what they've actually entered as some amend the details to bring the price down (so lying on your behalf and then you agree to it, so would be void if you needed to claim).  Happened to me a few times in the days when the internet hadn't taken off....The ones in the back of Max Power magazine etc...I never went with any of them and when I challenged them they said it would be ok. Idiots!

Martin Lewis (Money Saving Expert) recomends getting quotes about 3 weeks before the renewal date for the best prices. Just did that for the motorbike and got a decent price, plus cashback from Quidco 😉. My car insurance is due on the 26th September so will be doing the same. Looks like I paid £198 last year and £175 the previous year (I thought it was more 😂).

Just under three weeks to go to my insurance renewal and a comparison website has sent me various quotes for my 2021 Fiesta Trend Turbo. (I'm 77, only one claim in 59 years and that was nine years ago when I hit a deer.) Lowest was £305.61 from flow (who they?), then £357.30 from AA and £381.70 from LV=. Yet to hear from Ford Insure, who charged me £365 last year.

Have you tried confused.com or comparethemarket.com?

I'm 76 and just got about 10 quotes from confused.com between £240 and £270 for fully comp. on a brand new Fiesta Titanium 125mHEV with a full no claims discount. However I do live in rural Cheshire so that might help keep the price down.

That sounds quite reasonable. Was that for her Lamborghini or the Ferrari ? 🤣

My mum is a lady, it was for the Rolls Royce 😆

Age, location  and history have a big effect.

I'm 62, retired, so Social and Domestic only (7000 miles), 30+ years no claims and living in Lancashire, mine is due 28th September and I will be paying an annual price of £182 fully comp, which up a tenner on last year.

The OP is 69 years old. I'm sure he is well aware of all the things that effect car insurance premiums after buying it for decades! Unless of course, he's just passed his test 😧

Why?  My Dad was using the same company for 20 years...and shocked to then find it cheaper elsewhere.  Contrary to popular belief, simply doing something for a long time doesn't automatically make a person good at it!

Also worth noting most companies only count 9 years no claims...any more than that is generally irrelevant.

A £1200 quote suggests there's something affecting this that's not mentioned in the OP.  Recent claim?  Lots of points?  Poor credit history (for monthly payments)?

Maybe the OP is an undercover CIA agent living in central London, that might put the premiums up 🤣

I think the first rule of being an undercover agent is not telling anyone your real job.

That's the problem with a lot of people. They get into the mindset of loyalty of old times.

My late dad was the same until I found out he was paying over £450 for his house insurance which I promptly got him to cancel it and had a superior new for old policy for around a quarter of his premium.

Are we taking bets yet on whether the OP will be back, or just a one post wonder LOL

He'll be back. This time next year to complain about his renewal quotation 🤣

Depends which insurance company they decide on, auto renewal policies is the one to avoid.

I wonder how long we can make this thread last LOL The OP seems to have dropped a huge rock into a still pond, and now it's just rippling away forever! Quite funny really... 🤣

So much for my smugness. Today I had a letter from Ford Insure quoting me £571 for renewal!

(The Government's ban on offering cheap deals to new customers was announced in December.)

The hapless car salesman who took my details down for insurance cover wrongly noted that I kept the car on the driveway, when it's usually garaged. Be interesting to see if there's any premium difference between the two when I follow up the AA and LV= quotes. Though a car is more secure in a garage, I gather that some companies think there's a risk of damage driving it into one.

I've not noticed any difference, provided you have a private, off-road parking space as opposed to parking in the street.

I've not heard that one mentioned as yet, though I can see the logic when you consider that cars have grown considerably over the years and garages haven't. Even our small cars (Fiesta and Seat Mii) are a very tight fit in ours.  I've placed offcuts of old carpet in strategic places to avoid scrapes particularly when opening the door!
