Auto locking when driving off

The Auto lock will kick in at 14mph (couldn't see the mph setting but not too bothered)

It's actually 20KmPH approximately 12.4MPH It's not adjustable. The speed is set by EU rules.

On the Focus MK4.5 you can add the autolock and auto re-lock options on the SYNC4 screen. Settings can be found in the APIM using FORScan.

Switched off the autolocking on a previous car - Why? I can see the point of having it (avoid carjacking etc.) but to my mind, I could never be confident that in case of an accident the car wouldn't unlock itself!

I don't mind losing 20 minutes with Forscan...😋

All cars with auto-locking doors are programmed to auto-unlock in the event of a crash. Plus the handles are always engaged with the locks if that makes sense, so even though they are locked on the outside, they will always unlock via the handle regardless of auto-lock or not.

Never heard reports of doors failing to open after a crash, as its part of the procedure when the airbag is deployed.

Since discovered that ForScan and the Auto-Lock feature, appears to only be available on Sync3/4 models.

Tried to do a neighbours car last night and they have a 2014 Focus and the option was no where to be found (unless someone knows how to do that on 2014/2016 models?)

The option will be there somewhere. I have turned this feature on for many people, and the only car it's not worked on is a 2010 Kuga. The odd thing with the Kuga is the settings are there and I've enabled them but it just doesn't work.

The auto-locking has nothing to do with Sync, so if you cant find the settings in the normal BCM then check the IPC and the APIM to see if the is any mention of 'locking'. I know that 2014 Fiestas can definitely have the system turned on and also the 2016 Ecosport. I've just never tried a 2014 Focus.

Cheers, will check it again when they are in from work. I spent a good 20 mins going through each setting and searching for Auto / Lock / Door and nothing came up. I realise the Sync has nothing to do with it, it was more as judgement of the age of the car. Done my mums 2018 Fiesta (Sync 3) and a Transit Van (also Sync 3) and mine with is Sync 4. So was more as a ball park as to wether it would allow me to set Auto lock or not.

Will check again later though, just in case I missed it 😄

What lead are you using ?

Not that it should make much difference for what you are wanting to do. Try searching for 'Relock'

Ah ok will do! and this cable.....https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0952P4MLP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It connects fine and brings all all the settings etc - just couldn't see the lock options on the 2014 Focus. Didn't look for Relock though so could be that.

That's the same cable I use 👍

No luck. Checked APIM, PCSM, BCMii & IPC. None of them brought back any results for Relock, doors or lock. 😞

Seen we are still on the subject of door locks I have another probably related to something I have done question, when I first got the car when I touched the passenger side handle it would unlock now it doesn’t but I wouldn’t normally touch that handle.

is there a setting in forscan what could prevent this from working? I have messed with the auto lock function and put it in the menu but I can see how this would stop the sensor at the back of the handle working.

anybody any thoughts?

More than likely down to a drop in battery charge than anything else.

Have you the keyless entry on all four doors or just the front two as every now and again our rear door fails to lock/ unlock the car by touching it if it's been stood for a few days.

The vehicle is saving battery power and has disabled the keyless entry on the passenger door, and both rear doors if your car had that feature (some 2019 models do, and some don't). Unless the State Of Charge (SOC) of the battery improves, the car will continue to turn off other 'non-essential' equipment. For example Stop/Start, the heated front windscreen etc. before it eventually enters deep sleep mode which it will notify you by sending a message on the Ford Pass App.

All modern vehicles suffer the same problems to a greater or lesser degree. You need to use a smart charger, and put the battery on charge overnight. Leave the battery connected on the car. Connect the positive lead to the battery + terminal, and connect the negative lead to the chassis earth point, NOT to the battery. After a good charge and a short drive afterwards the locking will be turned back on.

I’ve been away for a week and the car has been left so that explains it, as for stop start you just never know when that’s going to work 😂, is it possible to check battery status with forscan?.

The car is on the motorway 5 days a week wouldn’t have thought the battery would need much charging.

Yes all four doors are keyless entry and it was stood for a week but had a good 40 mile motorway blast when I returned,

You would expect that a good run would be enough to keep the battery topped up, but unfortunately the alternator / charging system has been factory set to only charge the battery to 80% no matter how far you drive. This is all in the name of saving the dolphins. You can of course use FORScan and change the default charging to 90 or 95% which will take care of the SOC, but this may result in the loss of one or two tree-huggers.

You have probably already checked this but maybe the setting for Drivers door only has been inadvertently been enabled in the Information display.

There is a PID for Battery State of Charge in FORScan as well as others including Live Charging Current and Voltage, they're in the BCM. I believe that the there is an updated version of the Battery Monitoring Sensor because then older ones were reading low.

Incidentally, a 40 minute run may only add 3 or 4 % to the SOC depending on how low the Battery is and what charging mode the car decides to give it and the speed that you are travelling doesn't make the slightest bit of difference with these cars.
