Recommended glue for door seal

Featured Replies

Hi, what glue should I be using / would you recommend to re stick the rubber door seals ?

I've had success with some cheap glue from the newsagent for my back lower door seal (which you frequently see sticking out of peoples doors), but my poly cement isn't cutting it. Just not holding. On the curves of the door etc, where it bends around

Approx 1/3 of my driver door weatherproof seal has detached and is a bit of an inconvenience to hold in place as it won't stick.

what glue would you recommend?

If I were to buy a new one as the rubber is probably past it's best now anyway, do the OEM ones come with some sort of stick already applied or do they also need gluing ?

And if I decide to pull the existing one off, I assume I'll need to use alcohol or something to clean the existing rubber off

2013 ford focus.

Gorilla tape

Evo Stik contact adhesive works well.

I recently had the seal hang down on my passenger rear door and watched a few videos who recommended a double sided tape -https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0966TQXSS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Very easy to apply and so far after a month its still stuck strong, just make sure to clean the surface first or if its quite a big bit hanging down you might need glue or just try tape first and see how it goes but yeah a very common problem due to a bad design.

That's what I used, both rear door seals came loose in 2018, stuck it back on and it's still in place. Just make sure the surface is clean, preferably use isopropyl alcohol if you have any.

You could always opt to use the Ford OEM glue, it's what they normally put the door seals on with.

The story in our family is that my dear departed grandmother (she's been gone for nearly 50 years now) once tried a quick temporary repair where she wanted to re-attach the decorative pom-pom onto her tartan slippers so she used some marmalade. When my father asked her why on earth she thought that would work, she replied "well marmalade's sticky, isn't it?".

So maybe that's an alternative solution.....

3M double sided gel tape 5mm works great, clean old glue off by rolling it with your finger and a slight abrasive pad to get door really clean. I would use about 5 short pieces of tape rather than try and do it in one go as the 3M tape is really sticky.

Use 3m double sided gel tape 8mm from eBay. Cut into 5 short lengths and use tweezers as it's really sticky. Try and roll the old glue off using your finger then an abrasive pad to get it really clean. Take your time and it will work great.

Made a mistake regarding 3M double sided gel tape for Fiesta door seal in previous message. You should definitely use 8mm wide tape and NOT the 5mm. Still working great.
