Unable to update maps

Featured Replies

Hi All

Ive been struggling to update my maps on 2108 Fiesta , I can download the maps , extract to usb formatted to EXfat using MBR but the car recognises the usb and index's the usb but  it stops there, I have a Mac but I have tried on windows but no luck. Im doing this so I cab use the car sat nav again as I have been using Apple CarPlay but thats freezing on most journeys so no good. Any ideas how to upgrade the maps. Is there anybody else apart from the dealers who do this in South Yorkshire  ?

If you're feeling brave this:

https://cyanlabs.net/

Is a non Ford Sync installation site that will download and install the latest Sync version and maps - this is one way and you can't go back but it works and so much better than the Ford version.

You need to go on a long run to install the map version

I've been using it for a year and it works fine for me (2018 Fiesta)

Have you tried a different USB stick?  and what size stick are you using?

It does take about 1.5 hours to update, but it does say 'updating' up the top of screen.

64GB stick , San Disk never said updating. If I use the cyan labs will it sort out the apple car play issues ive been having and can I still update maps

thanks

Whats on the USB stick?

There should be two files: autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA

Then a directory called SyncMyRide with about six files inside it

Can't answer to Carplay as I don't use Apple but yes to maps - its genuine Ford Sync software but its from the US and much later versions than we get in the UK (maps are European) Ford UK has new software for 2020+ cars that won't be available to us the installer is much better than Ford and the USB stick install works better as well.

But you are overriding the original software so do make sure you some research before committing.

Post your current version:  I'm on Sync 3 V 3.4 build 22048 Maps F10

about to update to: Sync 3.4.22200 - Map Version: F11 (2021) - EU (05 2022)

ok so I did the download and there is autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA files and then a directory called SyncMyRide with about one file inside it called GB5T-14G386-AA_56065.tar.gz does that look ok as SgtAWilson above says there should be 6 files

Hmm, that file seems to be the one which creates a XML log file, which you would then upload to the Ford server.

The weird thing is, it doesnt usually have the numbers after the AA part.

If it is the log file utility, then when you put the stick in the car, it should display something like, it is now safe to remove the USB stick?

If you could post which version of Sync you are running and what maps file  (version F then a number), that would be helpful.

Hi I running 3.0.20204 and maps F6.1

Thanks

reason im doing this is because I managed  to update to  3.0.20204 but it took ages but I can't seem to be able to update maps

Can you check your current map version again. It's just not possible for it to be F6.1

I've never seen maps that old on a 2018 car with SYNC 3 !!!

Just realised your car is a Fiesta, I was thinking it was a Focus.

I would have expected F8 at the very least. The system is a bit out of date 🤣

Have you got a 32GB USB stick ? The system is not very good with big sizes like 64GB.

I agree with you

@Tally1000 So far you have managed to update the Sync software, so if you havent done so, you need to continuing following the Ford instructions

https://secure.ford.co.uk/content/dam/guxeu/uk/owners/resources-support/sync-support/update/SYNC_3_USB-Update-Guide.pdf

to upload the log file created to the ford servers.

Then after about 24 hours, you check on the ford website again to see if it offers you the map update to download.

OR if you dont want to go the official Ford route, then go with the Cyanlabs tool.

Thanks all , im going Cyanlabs route as ive struggled with Ford route. I have sorted why it only down loaded 1 file , I transposed a digit. now downloading all files

Regards

Just be aware from Sync 3.0, there is no return.

Cyanlabs tool will use a leaked reformat tool and you can't go back and use the official Ford provided update method.

You will be stuck on 3.2 or newer and have to use cyanlabs or manual methods for all future updates.

Every time that I download the Map_8630403397_Update.zip file, there are only two things to extract. There is a folder called SyncMyRide and a file named autoinstall.lst. There is no file called DONTINDX.MSA. Any ideas anyone?

The 'Do Not Index' file is not important and has not been included with the downloads for some time.

It's only purpose is to tell the SYNC system not to waste time indexing the USB pen drive. However since this takes less than a minute to index, the file has just been done away with.

The reason I asked is because the map update fails when I try to install it in the car. I am using a Sandisk 32GB usb formatted to exFAT.

What error?

On your USB you should have at the Root directory level only two things.

(1) SyncMyRide (folder)

(2) Autoinstall.lst

Inside the SyncMyRide folder you should have about 6 or 7 files of different sizes, some are quite large.

Does your car have 2 USB ports - One in the front centre consul and one in the armrest ?

The file setup on the usb is as you say with 6 files in the folder. Yes, it has two usb ports. I am using the one in the armrest.
