Dealership installed level 1 ipc software on the level 3 dashboard

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 2014 focus mk3 and I upgraded the instrument cluster from the small blue screen to the color one. I was careful to get one from a mk3 diesel like my car. Everything was fine until I went to the dealership to change the tpms sensors. The guy there updated the software on my car and installed the software for the small blue screen on my color dashboard. He said that because it was not factory installed he cant put the correct software on it. Can someone help me with some information about what would I need to do? Thanks.

one for the boys from forscan

you need to buy a decent cable for 40 to 60 quid and buy this https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=18751

but I wouldn't recco trying yourself - you'll need to find someone that knows their onions....

The ford diagnostic software checks what modules are installed and there software levels. If there is a  update , only the relevant software to that particular module will be downloaded and installed. Therefore if any software was installed it will be the correct one.

Put the colour screen in my mk3 focus a number of years ago and updated the software no problem.

of course that would be the right way - so what situation do you think the OP's car is in ?  muddled because something was updated and that's no longer compatible with the later cluster or ?

is it possible it wouldn't do the update the tech expected automatically - in which case is it possible to try and force the install - and if its got some muddled mess how does it even start now?

No idea what they may or may not have done. I very much doubt that wrong software was installed.

Why the dealer tried updating the cluster software is odd. When replacing tpms sensors all you do is put the bcm in tpms learning mode and train them. Takes all of 30 secs to do.

there appears to be alot of ford techs who don't know how to use ford IDs, FDR's, etis IDs and PTS correctly

I'm programming , updating and configuring on a dailly basis multiple times a day pcm, bcm, gfm,tcu , IPC, and others.

just Fords or lots of stuff - if so wot?

I had a BM I wanted to work with the later idrive controller - and my naff head unit couldn't do it - was some boffin up in Birmingham, he input a later build date flashing software off a 5 year newer car added the update and returned the info back - worked a treat (the checks and balances they put it meant 5 modules checked for the matching software as the idrive booted up - and previous attempts meant it was upset at the checks didn't agree )

Thank you all for your reply. Could someone recommend a good cable ? I already put in the old Instrument Cluster and everything is working fine, I'll just use this opportunity to learn. @Botus Thank for the link it looks super useful.

To update the software using Forscan you will need a paid license, so you can download the files, and a very good lead (OBDLink EX or better) NOT an ELM with a switch, absolutely NOT!

Beware the update procedure on an IPC can take up to 2 hours and is prone to failure if the settings are not perfect.

Battery MUST be fully charged and a charger connected to the car before you start

Whilst your programming and digging around in the modules could you find where Ford have moved / disabled  the "reset oil" from the IPC menu from a simple press of the "ok" button on the steering wheel 😬

Hello @DaveT70, thanks for the info. Would these suffice for what I'll try to do: https://www.obdlink-france.fr/produit/obdlink-ex-usb-pour-forscan/ and FORScan 1 year Extended License for 1 PC

there's a NEW cable out by vlinker that is now a bit further on than the odblink ex (make sure you run the latest firmware for whichever cable you get

What car? Focus?

Yep the Mk4 1.5 diesel. It's been either hidden or totally removed when it went to the dealers for the PTM update. I've looked in Forscan and can get the distance to zero miles back but not the option to reset by the "ok" on the steering wheel like it used to be.

Have asked on the ForScan board but so far nobody has come up with a solution.

I know it's mainly been taken off only on the diesels as others have found themselves in the same situation.
