Focus Mk IV Power Steering Issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wondering if anyone here might be able to help...

I've a 2019 Focus HB Diesel which has an intermittent issue whereby, on occasion (usually at very low speeds or from a standing start), when turning the steering wheel shudders (as if the inside wheel is losing traction) and there's a faint beeping / squeeking as this happens.  No warnings showing on the dash.  Nothing showing up on diagnostics at the dealer.  Has anyone had a similar issue and found a solution?

Many thanks.

Did you ask the dealer to update the power steering module and the front camera module software as that usually causes the issue

PM me your reg and I'll check what updates are available

As it happens my 2019 diesel Focus has now done that twice in the last few months. I've not looked in to why it did it and I know there are no stored DTC's (other than the usual HVAC fault).

Thanks @DaveT70. I definitely recall a discussion with the dealer around the calibration of the front camera when they last looked at it, but all was ok with that at the time. Not sure if anything was done with the modules (either front camera or power-steering), but I have asked the question of them and for them to check what updates are available. Thanks a mill.

Thanks @unofix.  Hopefully if it's a common issue - there's an easy fix!  Will keep you posted!

I had that happen once when my car was only a few months old and it has not happened since.

Nothing was done to the car and it was not reported to the Dealership.

Calibration will not cause the issue, it's the software that can cause issues, plus the steering

Camera is IPMA

Steering is PSCM
