Spare wheel for Titanium X MK.8

Featured Replies

First posting from a very pleased new Fiesta owner.

I've just bought a 2021 Titanium X with 17" wheels - I wan't to replace the tyre repair kit with a spare wheel. As far as I can tell there's not enough room in the spare wheel well for a full size spare so it will have to be a space saver. Can anyone tell me what the wheel/tyre size should be?. There are several on ebay but they seem to be mostly replacements for 15" or 16" full size wheels. I had a bad experience with a tyre repair kit when an almost new, easily repaired, tyre was scrapped because the tyre repairer said that the 'goo' prevented a normal repair being done. I'd be very grateful for some information

BTW, I was annoyed that the car doesn't have a full size owners hand book, only a very thin pamphlet covering the essentials. Apparently you can only read the handbook (all 454 pages of it!) on line

The Ford factory option spacesaver was 14x5.5" with a 175/65x14 tyre iirc. Emergency use only, of course.

Yes, handbooks downloadable online only now unfortunately:

That is what I fitted to my Titanium. It is recommended that if you need to use it, it should only be used on a rear wheel so be prepared to change two over in a howling gale by the side of the motorway! (Or turn off the traction control and don't expect the ABS to work.)

The 14inch wheel with 175/65/14 tyre is quite easy to get on eBay. That size was standard as the spare wheel in fiestas up to about 2009 before a spare became optional. It was also the standard size wheel used on the cars of the lowest spec plus the econetic diesels.  My 2015 fiesta style econetic diesel has 175/65/14 on steel wheels all round as standard. But if buying a 2nd hand one on eBay note that the tyre might be quite old now. That type of wheel has been the same since about 2002..  All tyres for about the last 30 years have date of manufacture on one side wall.  Format eg. 3011 means week 30 of year 2011 so about end of July 2011

My brothers 2006 mk6 fiesta came with that sized spare wheel. I acquired it for my Mk8 after he got rid. Unfortunately his jack doesn't fit under my ST-line, a scissor type is needed. The only fiestas with different spares are the ST with skinny 15 inch wheels as 14 inch ones won't fit over the larger front brakes.

I was having this conversation in my dealers the other week. The sales guy didn't know for sure, apparently most customers now just settle for the gunge and the breakdown man.

He promised to do a bit of research and come back to me but I'm pretty sure you're right. The spare has now disappeared from the latest price list anyway, but on the pre-facelift it showed a 14x5.5 wheel for all models except ST, and a 15x4 mini spare for ST, presumably because of the brake clearance issue.

Edit: On further thought, can't see a spacesaver being a good idea on cars with the Performance pack anyway, because of the LSD? In the event of a front puncture I'm assuming you'd have to put a back wheel on the front and put the spacesaver on the rear, so a 14" spacesaver should work in that case?
