Johnathan
Hi all, I'm sure it's been asked before but I can't find anything on here.... What are the service intervals on the 1.0 ecoboost engines please? Just about to buy a Focus active 1.o mhev 125 coming up for two years old (from a dealer) and there seems to be some confusion whether its every one or two years? Thanks J
unofix
Officially it's every 2 years, but owners who would like to keep their engine happy do an oil and filter change every year.

Johnathan
collected the car today. Looks like they only changed the oil and filter in the 'service'. That's ok with me as it's only done 6k but when I asked about the brake fluid (recommended every two years) the salesman said they probably didnt do it as it was such low mileage. No big deal with me tbh, I'm sure there are millions of old cars out there that have never had the brakes bled! One thing that did p me off though was finding out that Ford no longer use service handbooks so there is no easy service record to see, no stamped book. Apparantly, it's all digital now and you have to go on line to view it. I could be wrong but looking at it it seems only Ford dealers can access the system to record a service? Surely that cant be right?

There are plenty of fully 'Stamped Up' service books available on eBay. Just pick a one with lots of stamps and it will save you needing to spend money on future services 🤣

Surely that cant be right? Brake Fluid is Hydroscopic, it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere over time and mileage is irrelevant. The amount of moisture in it can be checked with a tester and should be if its history is unknown. In reality if it was tested it is unlikely to be below the recommended specification after only two years but may be in four years time. Apart from possibly causing corrosion in the complex Braking system, the biggest problem is that its boiling point is lowered if there is too much moisture in it and that can cause air locks, i.e. the pedal can sink to the floor and needs pumping to get any braking in extreme circumstances, especially if one of the brakes is binding and causing excess heat. That is exactly what happened to me years ago in a very old car that probably had the original fluid in it and it was a frightening experience, which is why I don't skimp on changing it on my cars, other people bury their head in the sand and don't bother. My car did come with a service Book , which is stamped, but you should have got at least a signed Checklist to say what they did for your records if you sell the car at sometime in the future.

Ford wanted to charge me £330, and that was before anything else they would recommend I change. To be honest, I thought that was obscene, even in this day and age, so went to my usual guy, who used to a head mechanic with a Ford main dealer and did it for less than half that, including VAT and the oil etc from TrustFord itself. Because of the Block Exemption and use of Ford-approved parts, there is no issue with the warranty. I also contacted Ford Credit about the matter (my car is on Options) and was basically told I could service the car however I wanted and they would only want genuine Ford parts in the car if it came to them (if, for example the car was being repossessed or not traded in for another car). You could obviously argue that having the car serviced by a main dealer would enhance its value slightly, but I've not experienced that in buying and selling cars, at least so long as you're quite prepared to tell the buyer or seller straight. 1
TomsFocus
Thanks Chris. Quote from my local is £255 for comparison. Mine is also still in need of the replacement MHEV battery cover under recall so would be easiest to have both done at the dealer at the same time. Sadly, I don't know of any local garages that I'd trust either, my non-Ford still needs some work done as well. There is the option to add collection & delivery for £24. Would be needed for me as the car is currently SORN while I'm unable to drive. Has anyone used Fords collection service? On the 'extra info' box, it mentions a van...does that mean they load it onto a pick-up instead of driving it on trade plates? Or do they send out one guy in a van, who leaves that in your parking space while taking your car? I know I could ask them via email but previous email comms with them haven't been a roaring success...

Last time I wasthe Ford garage I asked the service receptionist for a printout, which she gave me but mentioned that some of the information (not relating to the service history) would be left out. Don't know what was left out, but the printout did seem to show the price the dealership paid for the car before I bought it (used!). I've got into the habit of having the brake fluid changed by my local garage (every 2nd or 3rd MOT). They charge an hours labour plus the fluid, labour has shot up to £55/hr this year. PS How do you get your service history online? I like to keep a formal printed record.

A word of caution for anyone with one of these cars that has an Electronic Brake Booster instead of a conventional Servo. According to Ford you can't just do a conventional Bleed, an ABS service Bleed must be done. As far as I know it is just the later MHEV and the full fat ST versions that have the EBB. There is now a service Function in FORScan for a ABS service Bleed but I don't know if that is for conventional Servo cars or Electronic Brake Booster ones.
TomsFocus
Well this is interesting. I've just had the 'service due' email from the local dealership. A year ago I had this, and had to query them stating that it 'must be serviced every 12 months for warranty'. This year, they have sent out exactly the same email, again stating that it must be serviced every 12 months for warranty. Makes me wonder how many owners on 2 yearly servicing have been conned by this email. It's obviously been sent out for more than a year, even after having specifically told them that it is misleading! 😠
Johnathan
The plot thickens... Still no record of the 'service' on line, 11 days after it was done! Spoke with the retailer (2 unanswered emails so rang them) who, again, promised it would be done. So frustrating! Starting to get the feeling it's a 'well they have your money now, good luck!' job. I'll cross my fingers. You can view the service history on the Ford Pass app or on your My Ford Account if you have set it up. Ford do recommend a service every 24 months but I'll be having the oil changed avery 12 to be safe, brake fluid every 24 or 36. Keep you posted

Only scheduled services show up in the FordPass app.
