Help Battery Replacement

Featured Replies

Guys I just replaced the battery and drove the car about 12 miles, it ran ok but still runs rough, Sounds terrible when i shut off the engine,

Install went well only for when i was reconnecting the negative to the suspension tower i noticed a little metal fork hanging there so i connected back up best I could to the negative screw ???, maybe I was not meant to??

After fitting the new battery did you reset the BMS ?

...and then did you fully charge your new battery on the car for 12 hours ? Ensuring that the charger negative lead was connected to the chassis earth and not the battery terminal.

Post a photo of the mystery wire and we can advise if it is connected in the correct position.

Tried the reset but no flashing to say it was completed.

No did not charge battery will it be ok still to drive it??

It actually sounds better now that it did but not perfect yet.

I will have to disconnect the negative at the suspension tower to get a picture of the wire tomorrow

It will be fine to drive but you should still charge the battery.

Just make sure that the negative battery charger lead is connected to the chassis earth point and NOT the the battery.

Send a few photos so we can see what wires you have.

Will do thanks so much.

It is often easier to reset the BMS using FORScan.

There is also an alternative reset method. I will see if I can find it.

This is the alternative reset for the BMS.

Battery Monitor Reset:

(a) Turn ignition on, but not the engine.

(b)  Flash headlights 5 times.

(c)  Press brake pedal 3 times.

(d)  Battery light should flash 3 times, this indicates it has reset.

Should have said that with both methods the Drivers Door must be closed.

Why did you change the battery ? and in what way is it sounding terrible ?

Have you used FORScan to check for any DTC's ?

Lots of questions but it will help us to help you.

It would not start s few times needed  jump leads to get it going

Oh and sounds tough growing and down on power

It'd still be good to see what you connected up that wasn't.

Going back through your other posts, yes that air filter is not fitted correctly. It should be about 1cm further in, so that the edge of the filter is held by the box.

Could it be the air filter not fitted correctly that is causing the down on power and the car sounding rough??

I had 3 journeys today and the car drove fairly well with fairly good power the first half of the journey but the 2nd half of the journey the car had very little power.

If air is getting in to the air box and is somehow bypassing the MAF sensor then the fuel/air mix will be wrong.

OK after my post last night I refitted the air filter gave the car a 30 mile run and it ran well so fingers crossed that's it and thanks so much you guys please god I won't have to bother you guys about this again

Guys just one last question, here is a picture of the y wire that I was not sure exactly where tp position it. Maybe it was broken that it looks like a y shaped wire. I just never came across it in any of the videos. Advice much appreciated.

OK but exactly where should it be positioned???

That does not look like a normal Ford factory crimp (It's not broken). It won't be a ground wire for the BMS as that is installed in series with the main chassis earth wire.

It looks like the type of ground wire often supplied with things like additional driving lights or the negative lead of a hardwire dashcam kit.

Can you  post a photo to show more of the wire and where it is heading too ?
